Virat Kohli Flops Again After A Horrible Shot Ends His Stay At The Crease

Virat Kohli’s poor form with the bat continued as he departed cheaply in the first innings of the ongoing Test against England at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

All eyes were on Virat Kohli as he walked out to bat after India’s poor start against England. With Rohit Sharma not playing in the game, the onus was on the former skipper to deliver the goods with the bat.

Asked to bat first, India were off to a horrible start. Opener Shubman Gill was the first to depart, falling to James Anderson for 17. 19 runs after Gill’s departure, Cheteshwar Pujara departed too. He had opened the innings alongside Gill and was out for 13.

Pujara’s dismissal saw Kohli join Hanuma Vihari in the middle. And just like the openers, Vihari and Kohli failed to get going too. Vihari was India’s third wicket to fall. He was sent back by Matthew Potts.

Virat Kohli’s dismissal:

Potts dismissed Vihari for 20 to leave India reeling at 64 for 3. And just 7 runs later, he accounted for Virat Kohli to firmly put his team on the top. It was an unfortunate dismissal for Kohli who paid the price for being in two minds.

The delivery from Potts was well outside the off stump and Kohli just could not decide whether to leave the ball or go for a front foot defence. In the end, he dragged the ball onto the stumps. The batting star pressed forward to defend the ball but eventually decided to leave it. However, he was late and the ball ended up hitting the stumps after ricocheting off Kohli’s bat.

Here is a clip of the dismissal:

As far as the match is concerned, India are in a spot of bother. Soon after Kohli returned to the pavilion after scoring 11, Shreyas Iyer joined him in the pavilion too. Playing his first Test outside home, Iyer was out form 15. At the time of compiling this report, India were on 108 for 5 with Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja fighting it out in the middle.
