India skipper Rohit Sharma has spoken on the team’s plans for the highly-rated fast-bowler Umran Khan ahead of the upcoming series against England.

With Umran Malik impressing one and all with his express pace, there have been calls from several quarters to include him in the Indian team for this year’s T20 World Cup. The right-arm pacer was one of the finds of this year’s IPL.

He constantly touched the 150 kph mark in IPL 2022 and picked up 23 wickets including a five-wicket haul. Malik was duly rewarded for his display in the IPL with a maiden India call-up.

The selectors named him in the India squad for the home series against South Africa last month. He, however, did not get a chance to play in any game during the five-match series. Malik was later retained in the T20I squad for the two-match series in Ireland where he finally made his much-awaited international debut.

The fast-bowler from Kashmir is also a part of the T20I team for the upcoming T20I series against England. Malik will be hoping that he continues to get a chance in the playing eleven.

Rohit Sharma on plans for Umran Malik:

Ahead of the first T20I against England, India skipper Rohit Sharma spoke about the plans the team has for Umran Malik. The star batsman insisted that Umran features prominently in the team plans. He also said that Umran is one of the few players the team wants to try out in the coming days.

“He is very much in our plans. We are trying to give him that understanding as to what the team requires from him. There will be a time when we will try out a few guys and Umran is definitely one of them,” Rohit said.

Rohit also hinted that Umran features in the team’s plans for this year’s T20 World Cup. Calling the pacer an exciting prospect, Rohit stated that the team is keen to see what Umran has to offer.

“Keeping one eye on the World Cup, we would like to see what he has to offer for us. He is an exciting prospect, we saw in the IPL, he can bowl fast. It’s just about giving him the role, whether we want him to bowl with the new ball or we want to use him in the middle-order or backend. When you play for a franchise, roles are different as compared to the national team,” said Rohit.
