Team India skipper Rohit Sharma is reportedly out of the upcoming Test against England after being tested positive for Covid-19 last week.

Team India will be without their skipper Rohit Sharma for the much-anticipated rescheduled Test against England. The match is scheduled to begin on Friday (July 1) and Rohit is reportedly not fit for the clash.

Rohit had taken a Rapid Antigen Test on Saturday and was tested positive. Following the diagnosis, he was put in isolation in his hotel room. A couple of days later, BCCI added Mayank Agarwal to the squad as a back-up opener.

Rohit Sharma out of England Test:

On Monday, Rohit Sharma had given a seemingly positive update to his fans from his hotel room. He had posted a picture on his Instagram story in which he could be seen giving a thumbs up. The post from Rohit made many believe that he was recovering well and would be fit in time for the upcoming Test.

However, recent reports are suggesting otherwise. According to ANI, Rohit will miss the upcoming Test and he will be replaced by Jasprit Bumrah as the captain of the side. If Bumrah goes on to lead the team in the Test, it will be his first-ever match as captain of the side.

KL Rahul was the team’s vice-captain when the squad was announced in May. However, he too was ruled out of the game due to a groin injury.

While Bumrah is looking set to lead the team in Rohit’s absence, Mayank is likely to open the innings alongside Shubman Gill in the skipper’s absence. Gill and Mayank are the only two designated openers in the squad.

Missing Rohit would be a big blow for Team India. He was one of India’s performer during the first four Tests last year. In 4 Tests, he had smashed 368 runs at an average of 52.27 including a hundred at The Oval. Meanwhile, India are leading the series 2-1 and need just a draw in the upcoming clash to clinch a first Test series win in England since 2007.
