Their huge win over Sri Lanka in game one not only was a morale boost for cricket in Namibia, but in the short term, it has given them a great net run rate cushion. The defeat to Netherlands would have hurt, particularly given how they mucked up their batting approach to allow David Wiese and JJ Smit to face just nine balls between them as the Namibians crawled to 121.

Batting under lights has proven difficult so far in Geelong, as UAE have found out in their two matches to date. So, if UAE get the chance, their best strategy looks to be batting first, getting runs on the board and putting pressure on Namibia. • JJ Smit has an incredible strike rate of 181.81 in four T20I innings this year, which includes a 16-ball 31 against Sri Lanka. He is also Namibia’s leading wicket-taker in 2022 (11), with figures of 1/16 and 2/24 in this tournament.
• Namibia need to provide more batting time for David Wiese. The all-rounder is striking at 160.78 in all T20s this year, with 492 runs to his name.
• Bernard Scholtz will be a factor on the slow Geelong wicket. He has been economical in this tournament, taking figures of 2/18 and 1/21 so far. Interestingly, two of his three wickets in this T20 World Cup have been left-handers.

UAE:

• Zahoor Khan’s battle with Namibia’s finishers is one to watch. The seamer was outstanding at the death against Sri Lanka, conceding just three runs and taking two wickets in the 20th over.
• Also, Zahoor has taken six wickets in just two matches vs Namibia, including 4/29 last year. He dismissed Erasmus and Frylink in that game.
• Namibia will have to watch the impressive Karthik Meiyappan closely. The legspinner took a memorable hat-trick on this ground against Sri Lanka, where turn was available. Expect spin to be available once again today.
• Junaid Siddique will also be key with his stump-to-stump bowling. He took 3/24 two games ago vs Netherlands.
• Muhammad Waseem needs to lead the way if UAE are to make a decent score. He is the leading run-scorer this year with 546 runs at an average of 36.40 and strike rate of 146.38.
• Vriitya Aravind is also key. He has scored the second-most runs for UAE this year, with 434 at an average of 36.16 and strike rate of 132.21.
