Before the start of the Test, Bumrah was named as the stand-in skipper in Rohit Sharma’s absence as he became the first fast-bowler since Kapil Dev in 1987 to lead India in Tests. And Bumrah made the match more memorable for him with his breathtaking batting exploits.

Bumrah broke the record for most runs in an over in Test as he collected 35 runs off the Broad over. The record was previously held by the legendary Brian Lara, George Bailey and Keshav Maharaj. All of them had scored 28 runs in an over.

Lara was the first batsman to score 28 runs in an over when he achieved the feat in 2003 against South Africa’s Robin Peterson. Bailey was the next when he did it against England’s James Anderson in 2013. And two years ago, South Africa’s Keshav Maharaj hit Joe Root for 28 runs in an over.

Jasprit Bumrah takes Stuart Broad to the cleaners:

Jasprit Bumrah went all out when Stuart Broad came to bowl the 84th over of India’s first innings. The first ball was a short ball from Broad and Bumrah hit it for a four towards fine leg. On the following delivery, Broad conceded five wides. The next ball was a no-ball and Bumrah rubbed salt to Broad’s wounds by hitting a six.

Bumrah then hit three consecutive fours before hitting another six as he collected 34 runs from the first five balls. On the final ball, the India stand-in captain could take only a single but it was enough to create a world record.
