IPL 2023: India Has To Play Aggressively, Especially In T20s

Former Indian skipper Sourav Ganguly feels the Indian team’s top order batter needs to bat aggressively at the top with Hardik Pandya–and Ravindra Jadeja providing batting strength down the order for the Indian team. India’s team was often criticised for being more defensive at the start of their innings in white-ball cricket.

Sourav Ganguly, who will be part of Delhi Capitals as Director of Cricket, spoke exclusively to the Times of India, about the Indian national team, the injury to Rishabh Pant, India’s batting approach, and many more things.

Sourav Ganguly remarked that the Indian team needs to be more aggressive in their approach, especially in the shorter format.

“India has to play aggressively, especially in T20s. They have the team to do that. A team that sometimes has Axar Patel batting at No. 9 must play aggressively at the top. Pandya batting at No. 6 and Jadeja at No. 7, there’s too much depth,” Sourav Ganguly said.

Sourav Ganguly further continued, it is about adjusting to the high-pressure situation, as Indian cricket is always blessed to have many talents, and added that players should have hungry to win the championship.

“It’s about adjusting to the pressure, knowing your game, and batting according to your game. Indian cricket will always have talent and a big pool. It’s the ones who are more hungry who go to the next level. It’s about how you prepare for the big tournaments.”

Sourav Ganguly is currently part of the Delhi Capitals preseason camp in Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi. David Warner will lead Delhi Capitals in the absence of their regular skipper Rishabh Pant, who will miss out due to an injury.  Capitals will get their campaign underway on April 1 against Lucknow Super Giants.

I Don’t Think Impact Player Will Reduce Allrounders – Sourav Ganguly

Speaking on the Impact Player rule, Sourav Ganguly  Shared his view about the impact player rule, stating that it won’t take the all-rounders out of the context. Earlier Delhi Capitals head coach Ricky Ponting said the ‘Impact Player’ rule will make all-rounders less valuable.

All of us are excited and want to know how to get the best out of it. Allrounders will remain. I don’t think ‘Impact Player’ will reduce allrounders. Being an all-rounder is about ability,”  Sourav Ganguly added.

According to reports, Delhi Capitals were mulling using the Mumbai all-rounder Aman Khan as an impact player in IPL 2023. Aman Khan played for Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2022 but failed to impress. The Impact Player rule has the potential to decide the fate of the match and is going to make the IPL even more interesting.
