Jasprit Bumrah is out of action since September 2022, when he last played for India. He is currently recovering at National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru. While many former cricketers have suggested that Bumrah needs to change his action to play further for Men in Blue.

Former Pakistani speedster, Shoaib Akhtar comes in the support of Bumrah by stating that he is brave and he will be back with his original action for the team India in the future.

Akhtar explains the reasons behind the Indian speedster recurring back injury-

“He has this front-on action and when he loads up before delivering the bowl he puts a lot of pressure on his spinal cord,”

“We used to be side-on, and bowlers like me we could take help from our hips, thighs, from left hand as well and that used to compensate (for the pressure on the back). Unfortunately, Jasprit doesn’t have that leverage,” stated the Ex-Pakistani pacer.

Bumrah recently underwent back surgery in New Zealand and according to reports If Bumrah’s recovery goes to plan, the right-arm pacer should start bowling in August and be ready in time for the most anticipated 2023 ODI World Cup in October.

“A front-on action has no compensation and with that action, when the back gives in, you can’t escape it irrespective of how much you try,” he further added.

Indian fast bowling unit is doing well even in the absence of Jasprit Bumrah, with Mohammad Shami and Mohammed Siraj taking the responsibility for the fast bowling but Bumrah adds a different flavor to the bowling unit picking up in the crucial juncture for the team.

“The amount of cricket he has played he will break down. He was a regular in all three formats then he was playing IPL. His action is not that sustainable,”

“It’s unfortunate, I feel India could have managed him a bit better. And he himself should have been more aware of which format he should play and which he should skip,” concluded Akhtar on Bumrah.

Meanwhile, stand-in skipper in the 1st ODI, Hardik Pandya has insisted that India ‘are not much bothered’ about Jasprit Bumrah’s absence for the three-match ODI series against Australia. While, the 29 years is already ruled out of the IPL 2023 for Mumbai Indians, and if he recovers Men in Blue will be hopeful for his inclusion in the ODI WC 2023.
