Women’s Wrestling Army is ready for battle much sooner than expected.
Wednesday, wrestler, producer and now promoter Maria Kanellis-Bennett released a video on Twitter announcing a new women’s wrestling project she had in the works, Women’s Wrestling Army.
Friday, Kanellis-Bennett kept the announcements coming, this time announcing the organization’s first event. Slated for May 1, Women’s Wrestling Army will hold their first show in conjunction with Women’s Wrestling Revolution Plus (WWR+) and Beyond Wrestling. The co-promoted event, “Hit ‘Em Up Style”, already boasts a stacked line-up: Willow Nightingale vs. Jordan Blade, Jody Threat vs. Davienne, Alisha Edwards vs. Kayla Sparks, Tina San Antonio vs. Trish Adora, Hardcore Geeks (Kennedi Copeland & Riley Shepard) vs. Artsy Fartsy (Edith Surreal & Erica Leigh) and more.
Owner of Beyond Wrestling, Drew Cordeiro, tweeted a message of support for Kanellis-Bennett and her new idea, calling the concept “progressive” with the goal of “better taking care of women’s wrestlers”.
Spotlighting some of the best indie women’s wrestling nationally, WWR+ last held “WWR+ The (Littlest And) Meanest Of Times” on March 20. The show’s card featured impressive matches, like Delmi Exo vs. Kennedi Copeland, Tasha Steelz vs. Ashley D’Amboise, and the main event of Willow Nightingale vs. Jody Threat.
Kanellis-Bennett also announced via Twitter that a press release with more information would be released the week of April 18.
Women’s Wrestling Army will hold their first show at Fete Music Hall in Providence, Rhode Island, on May 1, starting at 7:00 PM EST. Tickets can be purchased on ShopIWTV. Visit WWA’s website to subscribe to their email list for updates. Follow them on Twitter @WWrestlingArmy.
