Steve Smith has once again reignited the Fab Four debate after scoring a sublime century in the ongoing ICC World Test Championship Final (WTC Final) against India at the Oval in London.

Australia desperately needed their former captain to deliver after making a shaky start with the bat on day one. Asked to bat first, the Pat Cummins-led side were reeling at 76 for 3 in the second session before Smith and Travis Head joined hands. And for the rest of the day, the duo did not let India pick any other wicket as Australia finished the day in the driver’s seat.

At stumps, Australia were on 327 for 3 with Head unbeaten on 146 and Smith on 95. Smith eventually reached a well-deserved century on day two. Shardul Thakur ended his stay at the crease by making him drag one onto the stumps. The right-handed batsman departed after scoring 121 runs.

Fab Four Century List: Who Has Scored Most Centuries Among Joe Root, Steve Smith, Virat Kohli & Kane Williamson?

Steve Smith has once again taken the lead among the Fab Fours after his latest Test century. The Fab Four is short for ‘Fabulous Four’ and is a popular term used to club together four batsmen- Virat Kohli, Joe Root, Steve Smith and Kane Williamson. Many believe that Kohli, Smith, Root and Williamson are the best four batsmen of this generation.

Coming to the Fab Four Century list, the likes of Smith, Kohli and Williamson have not really enjoyed a prolific time in Tests in recent months. Root, on the other hand, has performed exceedingly well. At the start of 2021, Root was the only member to have less than 20 centuries. While he had only hit 17 Test hundreds, Kohli, Smith and Williamson had scored 27, 26 and 24 respectively.

Root, however, not only bridged the gap but also moved up in the list by scoring 6 and 5 centuries in 2021 and 2022 respectively. Fast forward to June 8 2023, Smith has once again taken the lead in the Fab Four Century list. The Australia star is now leading the list with 31 centuries, followed by Root who has 29 centuries. Kohli and Williamson have scored 28 centuries each.
