‘Well played’ – Sachin Tendulkar congratulates Virat Kohli on his 49th ODI century

Former India cricketer Sachin Tendulkar took it to social media to congratulate his fellow countryman Virat Kohli on scoring his 49th ODI century in the ongoing match against South Africa in the World Cup 2023.
Kohli made sure to make his 35th birthday even more special by getting a World Cup ton at the Eden Gardens. With his latest knock, he matched Sachin Tendulkar for having scored the most hundreds in the ODI history.
While Sachin took 451 innings to reach the 49th century, Kohli did the same in just 277 innings. After the knock, Sachin congratulated Kohli on joining the elite club. He also stated that he hopes the right-handed batter will surpass him sooner than later.
“Well played Virat. It took me 365 days to go from 49 to 50 earlier this year. I hope you go from 49 to 50 and break my record in the next few days. Congratulations!!,” the caption read.

Team India produce batting master-class
Opted to bat first, Team India made a sounding opening as openers Rohit Sharma and Shubman Gill went all guns blazing. They smashed the Proteas bowlers all round the park with ease.
After the wickets of Rohit and Gill, Virat Kohli and Shreyas Iyer took the charge of the ship. They rotated the strike really well against the spinners, who were getting assist from the slow pitch.
While Iyer departed after scoring a vital 77 off 87 balls, Kohli continued to hold the other end. He went on to score a fighting hundred to ensure a good total on the board for his side.
The cameos from Suryakumar Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja boosted the Men in Blue’s total to 326. It’s a great target to defend as the pitch will slow down with every minute passing.
