In WI vs IND 1st ODI, India was asked to bat first. Opener Shikhar Dhawan and Shubman Gill slammed a marvellous opening stand of 119, with Dhawan smashing 97 and Gill scoring 64. Later, Shreyas Iyer also added crucial 54 to take India to 308-7 in the 1st innings.

During the chase, West Indies gave an exception batting performance. While opener Shai Hope got out for 7, his partner Kyle Mayers went on to hit 75. Next in line Shamarh Brooks and Brandon King also slammed good knocks of 46 and 54 respectively. Later, Akeal Hosein and Romario Shepherd scored unbeaten 32 and 39 for the team.

The match went into the final over where the hosts needed 15 runs for victory. However, Indian pacer Mohammed Siraj managed to defend the total. In the final ball, WI needed 15 runs to win but they lost the match by 3 runs evenutally. Shikhar Dhawan won the player of the match award.
