Fastest to 1,000 runs

Mahela Jayawardene reached 1,000 runs in Sri Lanka’s memorable triumph over India in the 2014 Final at Mirpur. The Sri Lankan great achieved the milestone in his 30th innings, underlying his status as one of the greats of the T20 World Cup.

Kohli went past Jayawardene’s record with an incredible eight innings to spare. With a trademark flick through midwicket, Kohli reached 1,000 runs in just his 22nd outing.

Average of 83.42

When Kohli reached the figure, he was averaging above 90. His dismissal brought the figure down, but it still sits at a remarkable 83.42.

Among players with at least 700 runs in T20 World Cups, Kohli’s average is more than double the next best of 39.07 by Jayawardene and 37.67 by Rohit Sharma.

Average of 270.50 when chasing

If that wasn’t enough, Kohli’s prowess when chasing is unmatched. When batting second in T20 World Cups, Kohli has ammassed 541 runs at an average of 270.50 and strike rate of 135.9, with the 82 not outs against Australia in 2016 and Pakistan in 2022 right atop the list of all-time knocks in T20Is.
