Venkatesh Prasad, the former Indian cricketer came in defense of in form Sarfaraz Khan’s weight and said that if he was fit enough to score multiple hundreds in domestic cricket, then it was not a matter of fitness but one of not taking the platform of first-class cricket seriously.

Mere days after being snubbed by selectors for the four-match Test series in Australia, Sarfaraz Khan responded with a brilliant century for Mumbai, against Delhi in a Ranji Trophy 2022/23 Group B game at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The batter smashed 125 of 155 in Delhi’s cold – hitting 16 fours and four sixes in his stay.

Venkatesh Prasad Reacts On Sarfaraz Khan’s Snub: It’s An Abuse To Domestic Cricket

The performance was yet another mark of how good Sarfaraz Khan has been in the domestic circuit over the past few years. When the news came that selectors had decided to go in a different direction for the 17-man squad for the first two Tests against Australia, the disappointment hit differently for Sarfaraz Khan. Many believed that there were concerns with his weight that have curtailed his rise to the next level.

“Not having him in the Test Team despite 3 blockbuster domestic seasons is not only unfair on Sarfaraz Khan, but it’s an abuse to domestic cricket, almost as if this platform doesn’t matter. And he is FIT to score those runs. As far as body weight goes, there are many with more kgs,” said Venkatesh Prasad on Twitter after the 25-year old’s ton.

Sarfaraz Khan, a former U-19 India cricketer, finished the 2021-22 Ranji season with the most runs. In six matches, he scored a total of 982 runs at an average of 122.75. In the 2019-20 season of the premier domestic tournament as well, the middle order batter impressed everyone with his performance and scored 928 runs in six matches.

There’s a reason why Sarfaraz Khan has been trending on Twitter or social media despite not being picked for India so far. In 36 first-class games, the 25-year-old has scored 3380 runs at an incredible average of 80.47.

Seeing Sarfaraz Khan reach the triple-digit score again, former India pacer Venkatesh Prasad took to Twitter and slammed selectors for overlooking the middle-order batter despite his consistent performances in First-Class cricket.

One of the biggest talking regarding Sarfaraz Khan’s non-selection has been his body weight. However, Venkatesh Prasad feels the batter is absolutely ‘fit’ to play for India. In terms of his weight, the former pacer Venkatesh Prasad is of the opinion that there are other cricketers with ‘more kgs’.

The news of his snub had reached him when he was in the Mumbai camp in Delhi for the Ranji game. He later said that a visit from his father helped him feel better about the situation.
