“Today The Performance Was Right With Bat And Ball”- Ashleigh Gardner After Winning The Player Of The Match Against DC Women

Gujarat Giants (GG) won a nail-biter against DC Women. GG won the match by a narrow margin of 11 runs where they bundled out DC Women for 136 in 18.4 overs. Ashleigh Gardner had a terrific outing with both bat & ball. Earlier Ashleigh Gardner smashed a half-century & then took 2 scalps in her 3.4 overs where she gave away 19 runs.

DC Women would be shell-shocked as once again their middle order got exposed. This is DC Women’s 2nd defeat in the tournament in 6 matches where it looks unlikely that DC Women will finish at the top of the table as MI Women have won all of their 5 matches & are looking unstoppable (*top team gets a direct entry to the final). Marizanne Kapp can bat at the No.3 position as the batter showed immense mental application on an uneven track where she scored 36 runs in 29 balls where she struck 4 fours & 1 six.

DC Women would be dejected as they didn’t pick wickets at regular intervals of the match. DC Women bowlers allowed the batters to get their eye in where Laura Wolvaardt & Ashleigh Gardner struck half-centuries. It won’t be wrong to say that this is a wake-up call for DC Women.

With this win, GG now has moved to 4th position with 4 points & with an NRR (Net Run Rate) of -2.523. Gujarat Giants (GG) have to win the remaining 2 matches to give themselves any chance of making it to playoffs as UP Warriorz, RCB Women & GG are competing for one spot as DC Women are almost qualified.

During the post-match presentation, Ashleigh Gardner was asked about her performance.

“This was the game I was searching for. Felt I have been inconsistent, but today the performance was right with bat and ball. Found the right balance.” said Ashleigh Gardner.

“We spoke about losing too many wickets in clumps, so the idea was giving ourselves time because in India we can catch up with the grounds being fast. As the tournament has gone on, spin has played a big part. It is a bit slower off the wicket, so we can bowl our natural lengths.” she added.
