Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defended the target of 229 quite comfortably against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). SRH won the match by 23 runs. KKR’s skipper Nitish Rana played a blistering knock of 75 runs in 41 balls & struck 5 fours & 6 sixes. Nitish Rana whacked Umran Malik for 28 runs in the 6th over which gave them some sort of hope.

KKR’s management made a mistake by not promoting Nitish Rana & Rinku Singh up the order. The KKR fans had a ray of hope when Rinku Singh was present, KKR needed 32 runs to win off the last over but Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t give ample room to the batters. Rinku Singh scored 58 runs in 31 balls & smashed 4 fours & 4 sixes.

Bhuvneshwar Kumar was quite economical as he gave away 29 runs in his 4 overs and took 1 wicket. Bhuvneshwar Kumar astonishingly bowled 1 maiden over (*first over of the run chase) which is priceless in modern cricket especially when the team is defending 229 runs.

Harry Brook, the dashing batter resounded the statement that he is not done yet by smashing a flamboyant knock of 100 runs in 55 balls as he smashed 12 fours & 3 sixes. SRH skipper Aiden Markram too struck a breezy half-century in 26 balls.

KKR skipper Nitish Rana would rue the fact that he didn’t hand the ball to Shardul Thakur when SRH’s batters were in beast mode. KKR would be sweating on the fitness of Andre Russell who bowled 2.1 overs & took 3 wickets. Later he came into bat but couldn’t create an impact.

We batted really well & wanted to take the game deep- Nitish Rana

During post match presentation, Nitish Rana was asked about the team’s performance. Nitish Rana spoke that their bowling attack didn’t bowl well. Nitish Rana also pointed out that the batters showed some fight after being in a state of bother. Nitish Rana stated that every time Rinku Singh can’t smash back-to-back sixes.

“Thanks for the compliments on the run chase. I feel the way we bowled was not according to the plans. No matter what the wicket was like, this wasn’t a 230 wicket. One odd day you’ll get an innings like Rinku had the other day, but not everyday. We batted really well, we wanted to take the game deep and then you never know,” said Nitish Rana.

“Home advantage is one thing, but we know Eden Gardens tracks always play this way, we expected 200 to be a par score here and have been preparing that way, but we need to bowl better. Today, even the main bowlers were going for runs but I can’t be too critical because these are the same bowlers who will win me a game some other time. Very happy with the fight we showed but would have loved it more if we got two points as well,” he added.
