Former Australia cricketer Adam Gilchrist has shared a special bit of advice for the current Australian team that is playing India in the ongoing Border-Gavaskar Trophy, 2023.

India are already 2-0 up in the four-match Test series and have retained the coveted trophy. Their dominant performance in the opening two matches have helped them strengthen their chances of booking a berth for the Final of the ongoing World Test Championship.

While there has been an ongoing debate over the condition of the pitches being so kept to favour the home team, former Australian wicket-keeper Adam Gilchrist has come in support of the ‘kangaroos’ and has asked them to keep the past behind and make the best out of what lies ahead. He said that with two matches remaining, there’s still a lot to salvage for Australia.

“It’s been a tough series and they have been outplayed by India upto this point, so the series is done and they can’t win it but they can salvage a lot out of it and that’s the challenge and look Australia has come up against very skilful Indian team here there is no reason Australia can’t salvage something out of it and of course world test championship is something that is on offer for both teams. So that makes it quite interesting,” the 51-year-old was quoted as saying by NDTV Sports.

The former wicketkeeper-batter believes that even though the current series might be done and dusted for Australia, that shouldn’t hold them back from playing their hearts out in the remaining two Test matches. On the contrary, the Australian team could learn a lot from all the mistakes they committed in the first two Tests, so as to not repeat them in the remainder of the series.

No advice for spinners because I can’t bowl any: Gilchrist

For the third Test, Australia are taking field with a combination of three regular spinners in Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy and Matthew Kuhnemann. At a time when the Indian spinners are being extremely effective, Gilchrist was asked if he would want to share any piece of advice with the spinning trio to which, he gave a tongue-in-cheek reply.

When asked about an opinion, Gilchrist wittily said, “I won’t give any advice to the spinners because I can’t bowl spin.

Day 1 of the third Test saw Australia dominating over India as the hosts were bundled out for 109. Matthew Kuhnemann was successful in bagging his maiden Test fifer. Lyon and Murphy scalped 3 and 1 picks respectively, to make it a spinners-only hunt.
