Laura Wolvaardt takes advantage of opening berth

Laura Wolvaardt was finally elevated to open against Manchester Originals after batting in the middle order in her first three games for Northern Superchargers. It’s fair to say Wolvaardt didn’t disappoint with an unbeaten 90 from just 49 balls to help her side chase down 161.

The South African international is universally recognised for her elegant cover drive but Wolvaardt’s innings at Headingley consisted predominantly of strong hitting in front of square on the leg side as well as a high boundary percentage with 64 of her 90 runs coming in fours or sixes. Wolvaardt should continue to open the batting and provide plenty of fantasy points for the Northern Superchargers if they want to remain in the playoff hunt. 

Dottin leaves a huge hole in the Originals batting lineup

Deandra Dottin has hit eight sixes so far this year in the Hundred, double the amount of Laura Wolvaardt in second place. 

Opposing bowlers have struggled to tie down the West Indian batter, who capitalises on anything slightly too full and is able to manipulate six hitting options herself by using the crease. Dottin is particularly strong hitting sixes with her slog sweep but she isn’t a one dimensional batter by any means – in fact she has hit more boundaries (23) than total dot balls faced (22) in the Hundred. 

Unfortunately Deandra Dottin has played her last game in the Hundred this season, leaving to honour CPL duties, with Erin Burns taking her place in the Manchester Originals squad – remaining Originals stars such as Lizelle Lee and Sophie Ecclestone will be tasked with replicating Dottin’s power in the Originals batting order. 

Ellyse Perry proves her worth as a T20 batter

Ellyse Perry’s value as a T20 player has often come into question with her poor returns eventually resulting in her losing her place in Australia’s T20 side – and yet despite being unable to bowl for Birmingham Phoenix so far Perry has arguably been their most impactful player, shining with the bat.

A beehive of Perry’s boundaries so far provides plenty of insight into just how proactive she is in her crease, forcing opposing bowlers to drift down leg side to her as well as providing the Australian with width to capitalise on as a result of her fancy footwork. Perry has a strike rate of 130 in her opening 10 balls at the crease, continuing Birmingham Phoenix’s aggressive batting style – with Phoenix unbeaten so far and set to go deep in the tournament Perry’s excellent form provides an alternative fantasy asset. 

Home track bullies provide easy targets

Southern Brave have managed to maintain their unbeaten record at home in the Hundred so far, with Oval Invincibles (4 wins, 2 losses) and Northern Superchargers (4 wins, 2 losses) also boasting impressive home records. Such impressive records can often lead to lop-sided encounters, with high scores on offer for batters and plenty of wickets available for home bowlers – keep this in mind when selecting your fantasy team.
