TATA IPL Points Table: Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) defeated Mumbai Indians (MI) by 31 runs in match number 8 of the ongoing Tata Indian Premier League (IPL) 2024. With the win, SRH opens its account in the TATA IPL Points Table, while Mumbai continues to sink with two back-to-back defeats at the start of the tournament.
Phew! What a sensational display of batting it was from both the sides. Over 500 runs were scored in just 40 overs of play by Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) and Mumbai Indians (MI) collectively. Several records tumbled and new heights were reached as the game progressed. Everything the game had in the store was just simply unbelievable for the fans to register.
Batting first SRH muscled 277 runs in just 120 deliveries. The players in the orange just tormented the one’s earing blues today. The bowlers felt tormented throughout the innings and not even once did they feel they had even the tiniest bit of it in the game. It was such an outstanding display of batting.
The batting bandwagon began with Travis Head (62 off 24) and Abhishek Sharma (63 off 23) scoring quick runs, right from the word go. Post the wicket of the two aforementioned, the onus was rightfully executed by Aiden Markram (42* off 28)and Heinrich Klaasen (80* off 34).
SRH shattered RCB’s record of having the highest-ever total in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL) by scoring 277 runs in 20 overs against MI. RCB, previously, had scored 263 against Pune Warriors India (now defunct) in 2013.
As the target was being set, everyone knew the game was far from Mumbai’s reach. Hardik Pandya and his men just needed to keep with the required run rate and reduce the damage of negative net run rate ultimately.
However, MI kept things interesting and everyone on their toes right from the start of the innings. The likes of Rohit Sharma (26 off 12), Ishan Kishan (34 off 13), Naman Dhir (30 off 14), Tilak Varma (64 off 34), Hardik Pandya (24 off 20) and Tim David (42* off 22), all made their significant contributions.
MI could score 246 runs in their quota of 20 overs and were 31 runs short of the required target. Mumbai now have two losses in their two opening matches and they move to the bottom of the IPL points table.
