South Africa defeated Pakistan with six wickets in a thrilling warm-up match for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup on Wednesday.
Skipper Babar Azam and Mohammad Rizwan failed to impress with the bat as they scored 15 and 19, while the Pakistani bowlers did not pick up timely wickets to restrict South Africa.
South Africa had won the toss and put Pakistan to bat first.
Pakistan took two early wickets in the same over after handing a 187-run target to South Africa.
All-rounder Imad Wasim dismissed Quinton de Kock (6) and Reeza Hendricks (7) in the third over. They were replaced by Rassie van der Dussen and Temba Bavuma.
While Shaheen Afridi managed to send Temba Bavuma back to the pavilion after the South African skipper scored 46 runs by the end of 16 overs.
During the first innings, the Pakistani team lost key players — skipper Babar Azam (15) and wicketkeeper-batsman Mohammad Rizwan (19) — within quick intervals.
Anrich Nortje dismissed Rizwan in the sixth over, right after Kagiso Rabada bowled Babar in the fourth over of the match.
Following Babar and Rizwan’s dismissal, Mohammad Hafeez (13) was also sent back to the pavilion by Keshav Maharaj in the second-last ball of the 10th over.
Meanwhile, Shoaib Malik and Asif Ali were also sent to the pavilion at the loss of 28 and 32 runs.
Pakistan thrashed West Indies earlier this week with a seven-wicket victory in a warm-up match.
The national squad flew to Abu Dhabi from Dubai at 2pm (PST) ahead of the match.
