Shaheen giving cold shoulder to Gurbaz

The last and third ODI of the three-match series between Pakistan and Afghanistan took place in Colombo on Saturday.

Opted to bat first, Pakistan lost four quick wickets. This is when Babar Azam (60) and Mohammad Rizwan (67) stabilized the innings at 162-2.

Salman Agha (38 in 31 balls) and Mohammad Nawaz (30 in 25) then rescued the team from a tough position of 189-6 after 41 overs when Shaheen Shah Afridi stepped in at 266-8 with just one ball remaining.

Facing Fareed Ahmed’s delivery, Shaheen directed the ball towards deep mid-wicket. He and Salman completed two runs and even considered a third but decided against it as the ball sailed over wicketkeeper Rahmanullah Gurbaz’s head.

In an attempt to catch the ball, Gurbaz leaped and seemingly stretched his right leg excessively. This led to him straining a muscle, forcing him to sit on the ground in evident discomfort. Unperturbed, Shaheen strolled past Gurbaz towards the pavilion, which caught the attention of the audience.

Words can’t describe how much I love Shaheen for this pic.twitter.com/3Oy9MZmrGt

It’s noteworthy that in a T20 World Cup warm-up match in 2022, Shaheen delivered a yorker that struck Gurbaz’s boot, resulting in a leg-before dismissal. On that occasion, Shaheen had immediately checked on Gurbaz, who was visibly in pain.

Shaheen Shah Afridi went to Rahmanullah Gurbaz and asked him about the seriousness of his injury. Great gesture by Shaheen Afridi. Earlier Shaheen had stuck the yorker on Gurbaz’s toe. #PAKvAFG #ShaheenShahAfridi #T20WorldCup #WarmUpMatch pic.twitter.com/Mbk0u5LJde
