Sanjay Bangar believes Arshdeep Singh should replace Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi should come in place of Axar Patel in the third T20I which will be a do-or-die game for the hosts but it remains to be seen whether Rishabh Pant and head coach Rahul Dravid make any changes to the playing eleven.
Trailing 0-2 in the five-game T20I series, Rishabh Pant and Co. face a stiff challenge as the action moves to Vishakhapatnam. India needs to win the remaining three games to seal the T20I assignment while South Africa is staring at a series win away from home. India went with an unchanged side in Cuttack for the 2nd T20I despite suffering defeat in the series opener at Delhi.
In the second T20I at Cuttack, pacer Bhuvneshwar Kumar scythed through the Proteas’ top order but found no support from other bowlers. Temba Bavuma had a great partnership with Heinrich Klaasen, who hit a blistering 81 to take South Africa home. Harshal Patel was also economical and got a key wicket of Heinrich Klaasen but Avesh Khan went wicketless.
Sanjay Bangar Wants Arshdeep Singh And Ravi Bishnoi Replace Avesh Khan And Axar Patel
Spinners Axar Patel and Yuzvendra Chahal were extremely expensive too. Axar Patel was given just one over in which he leaked 19 runs, while Yuzvendra Chahal was smashed for 49 runs in his four overs. Few Indian players have shown individual brilliance but haven’t fired in unison so far. Former India player Sanjay Bangar believes Arshdeep Singh should replace Avesh Khan and Ravi Bishnoi should come in place of Axar Patel.
“We have a lot of options for the first six overs, so we can try out Arshdeep in place of Avesh Khan,” said Sanjay Bangar in an interaction.
“Who can be played in place of Axar Patel? One option can be to play Bishnoi. If two wrist-spinners can give wickets to the Indian team in the middle overs, then they can break the momentum slightly,” added the former India batting coach.
Ravi Bishnoi has picked 13 scalps in 14 games in IPL 2022 averaging 35.08 at an economy rate of 8.44. He has also picked 4 scalps in as many T20Is averaging 27 which came at an economy of 6.75 after debuting in 2022 against the West Indies. In IPL, he has 37 scalps from as many games averaging 28.7 playing for Punjab Kings and Lucknow.
The left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh was not heavily involved in wickets during IPL 2022. However, he recorded an economy of 7.70, with most of his overs coming at the back end of the innings. In the 2022 IPL season, Arshdeep Singh took 10 wickets in 14 games with an economy rate of 7.70 and an average of 38.50.
The tall bowler is known to use his 6’3” frame to his advantage. He picked 18 scalps in IPL 2021 in 12 games averaging a mere 19 last season. So far, he has 40 scalps in 37 games averaging 26.35 with a best of 5/32.
Rishabh Pant Was Criticized With Captaincy Tactics After Axar Patel Batted Ahead Of Dinesh Karthik
As India looks to return to winning ways, Rishabh Pant has to lead from the front and check all boxes as a leader. The 24-year-old dasher was criticized after Axar Patel came in to bat ahead of Dinesh Karthik in the last T20I.
Dinesh Karthik – at the peak of his batting prowess – was sent at No.7 and he hit an unbeaten 21-ball 30, laced with two sixes and as many boundaries. It helped India finish with 148 for 6.
But Axar Patel was scratchy during his stay in the middle. He was dismissed for 10 off 11 by Anrich Nortje. If bowling let India down in the first game, a poor batting show cost them the second match. South Africa, on the other hand, has ticked all boxes away from home.
Dinesh Karthik had been slotted in at No 6 but he was held back as India decided to send in Axar Patel instead. Dinesh Karthik had taken IPL 2022 by storm with his incredible power-hitting skills in the slog overs. He scored 330 runs in 16 innings at a strike rate of 183.33 with one half-century averaging 55.
Dinesh Karthik made his India debut in 2004 and went on to play India’s first-ever T20I match. If all goes well, he will play the ICC T20I World Cup 2022 at the ripe age of 36.
