India women opt to bowl v Sri Lanka women

Harmanpreet Kaur, the India captain, won the toss and elected to field in the 2nd ODI at Pallekele International Stadium. Coming into the game having won the opening ODI by four wickets, India’s aim will be to add to their tally of two points on the ICC Women’s Championship table.

They went with the same side that won the opening game, with Harmanpreet expecting the surface to aid seam and swing. “We are going to bowl first. There is a bit of moisture on the wicket and we are going with three seamers,” she said. “I think it is a better wicket than the previous one. We always want to stay together as a team. We are going with the same XI.”

Sri Lanka mde two changes. They brought in debutant opener Vishmi Gunaratne in place of Hansima Karunaratne, and fast bowler Ama Kanchana came into the playing XI in place of Rashmi Silva.
Chamari Athapaththu, the Sri Lankan captain, said that her team has a target in mind while batting first.

“We are looking for around 240 on this wicket, we have a good bowling lineup, an experienced bowling lineup. We lost a couple of wickets early (in the first ODI). Other batters got a good start but did not get to 240. We have to play good cricket and look to bat till the end,” Athapaththu said at the toss.

There was some overnight rain in Pallekele but the match started on time. It was a pleasant morning with hardly any breeze to speak of. The outfield is expected to be on the heavier side and with a fresh pitch being used, a bit of movement early on can be expected.
