Ravichandran Ashwin Blows Australia Away In Second Innings, Takes A Quick Fifer; Twitterati Tip Their Hats
[ad_1]
Ravichandran Ashwin was all over Australia in the second innings of the ongoing India-Australia first Test of the four-match Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2023 series. The bowler has left the visitors in shambles after they conceded 223-run lead on day three of the match.
India began day three by losing Ravindra Jadeja for 70 runs. But then Axar Patel and Mohammad Shami added an entertaining 52 runs for the 9th wicket with Shami hitting 37 runs in 45-odd balls with 2 fours and three massive sixes and got India closer to the 400-run mark.
However, Todd Murphy completed his seven-wicket haul, picking 7/124 by dismissing Shami and then Pat Cummins accounted for Axar Patel, who had added 52 runs with the Indian pacer and was looking good for his maiden Test ton. But unfortunately, the all-rounder fell for 84 runs as India’s innings folded for 400 with a lead of 223 runs.
Twitterverse In Awe As Ravichandran Ashwin Runs Through Aussie Batting With His 31st Five-Wicket Haul In Tests
Australia came out to bat with Usman Khawaja and David Warner opening the innings. And then began the Ravi Ashwin show as he bamboozled the Kangaroos after opening the bowling with Mohammad Shami.
Ashwin started by having Khawaja caught in slips by Kohli for 5 runs and then later had David Warner out LBW, despite him taking the DRS call and the review coming out via the umpire’s call. Then there was the hat-trick of LBWs by Ravi Ashwin.
First was Matt Renshaw, who again fell to Ashwin, but managed to score 2 runs, followed by Peter Handscomb, whose pads Ashwin hit from around the wicket and who also took a review. But the DRS showed that the ball was hitting the leg stump.
Next came in Alex Carey, who tried to reverse sweep Ashwin from the start and missed one, while Ashwin hit the pads bang in front of the stumps. The DRS review returned the result in Ashwin’s favor and he completed his 31st five-wicket in Tests and left Australia in shambles at 64/6.
The Twitterverse was all praises for Ravichandran Ashwin and lauded him for his five-wicket haul, giving India a huge advantage.

Could be wrong, but I can’t help thinking Aus have overthought things and got sucked into the pre-match pitch talk, much of that coming from Aus, ironically. That aside, their weaknesses against spin have been thoroughly exposed by Jadeja and Ashwin. #BGT #INDvAUS

Enjoy how all the commentators will do in-depth PhD analysis on Siraj’s batting, Ashwin’s elbow, Jadeja’s knee, SKY’s wrists…
But, everyone will keep ignoring Kohli regularly dropping catches.
