Pakistan skipper Babar Azam, who is leading Peshawar Zalmi in the ongoing eighth edition of the Pakistan Super League (PSL), was delighted after Ricky Ponting heaped praise on him for his splendid efforts with the bat, however, the veteran believes there is always room for improvement.

Babar Azam speaking on ICC digital, says that he is happy to hear good things about him from a legendary player like Ponting. He asserted that it will add to his confidence.

“You get confidence when a legendary player gives you a compliment and you try to be better, When such a huge player passes positive comments, it adds to your confidence and you have it in your mind that such a huge player is talking good about you,” Babar Azam said.

Babar also said that these players would have gone through a similar phase in their cricketing career–and he would try to take such comments positively and try to give his best in the foreseeable future.

“Because these players have been through a similar stage so they know what mindset I have. They have been through similar scenarios and know the game. So yes, I try to take these comments positively and try to produce my best.”

Babar Azam-led Zalmi will take on Quetta Gladiators on February 20 and he will look to do well–and take his team back to winning ways after losing against Multan Sultans in the previous encounter.

Ricky Ponting Heaped Praise on Babar Azam

It becomes pertinent to mention that star batter Azam won the Sir Garfield Sobers Trophy for ICC Cricketer of the Year in 2022.

Moreover, the Lahore-born cricketer won the award for the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year for the second time in a row.

Ponting said that Babar still needs improvement as a batter. There is no doubt that he is concurrently one of the top players in world cricket in all three formats of the gentleman’s game.

Ponting was full of praise for Babar on a recent episode of The ICC Review: “I think Babar’s still got a little bit of improvement to come, which is a pretty scary thought with what he’s been able to do, pretty much across all three formats over the last three, four years.”
