Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has rejoined the team after recovering from typhoid, the franchise confirmed on Sunday (May 15). The right-handed batsman has not played for the franchise since May 1 when Delhi Capitals were up against Lucknow Super Giants. Shaw then went on to miss the following three games for Delhi Capitals as he was admitted to a hospital on Sunday due to high fever. Later, he had shared an Instagram post from his hospital bed, saying he was hopeful of coming back soon.
Earlier this week Delhi Capitals’ assistant coach Shane Watson stated the young batsman is unlikely to return to action for the remainder of IPL 2022. However, the franchise has confirmed that the batsman has made a quick recovery and has rejoined the team. Delhi Capitals also confirmed that the batsman was indeed suffering from typhoid. Shaw has returned to the team hotel and is currently being monitored by the franchise’s medical team.
“Delhi Capitals opener Prithvi Shaw has been discharged from the hospital where he was being treated for a bout of typhoid. Shaw has returned to the team hotel where he is currently recuperating, while being monitored by the DC medical team,” stated the franchise.

Shaw’s return will be a big boost for Delhi Capitals as they eye a place in the playoffs. They are currently at the fifth spot in the points with 6 wins from 12 games. If Delhi manage to win their remaining two games, they will be in a good position for a place in the next stage. Talking about Shaw’s performance this season, he has scored 259 runs in nine games at an average of 28.77 and a strike rate of 159.87, with two fifties.
He has formed a formidable partnership with David Warner at the top of the order. In Shaw’s absence, Delhi Capitals paired Warner with Mandeep Singh and Srikar Bharat but the duo failed to deliver. Mandeep was out for a duck against Sunrisers Hyderabad and was dropped after that game. In the following two games, Bharat registered scores of 19 and 0.
