Rajasthan Royals, on Saturday (April 13), beat Punjab Kings by three wickets in a thrilling game to return to winning ways in IPL 2024. Set a target of 148, RR crossed the finishing line with a ball remaining.

RR were off to a good start with Yashasvi Jaiswal and his new opening partner Tanush Kotian adding 56 runs for the first wicket. Liam Livingstone broke the stand by dismissing Kotian for 24. Jaiswal and Sanju Samson then added 26 runs for the second wicket before both of them departed in quick succession.

Kagiso Rabada dismissed both of them to leave RR reeling at 89 for 3. Riyan Parag and Dhruv Jurel steadied the ship with a 24-run stand before they departed in quick succession as well. Arshdeep Singh dismissed Parag while Harshal Patel dismissed Jurel to reduce RR to 115 for 5 from 113 for 3.

It was followed by a 21-run stand between Shimron Hetmyer and Rovman Powell. With both the batsmen going well, it looked like they would take RR home easily. However, Sam Curran dismissed Powell as well as Keshav Maharaj in the 19th over to turn the game on its head. In the final over, RR needed 10 runs and Hetmyer made no mistake in taking his team home.

Earlier in the game, RR managed to restrict PBKS to 147/8 in 20 overs after opting to bowl first. With captain Shikhar Dhawan unavailable due to niggle, Jonny Bairstow opened the innings with Atharva Taide.

They added 27 runs for the first wicket before Avesh Khan dismissed Taide for 15. 14 runs later, Yuzvendra Chahal dismissed Prabhsimran Singh for 10. From thereon, PBKS kept losing wickets at regular intervals and soon found themselves reeling at 70 for 5.

Jitesh Sharma and Liam Livingstone provided some much-needed stability to the innings and stopped the rot with a 33-run stand. Avesh Khan broke the stand by dismissing Jitesh for 29. Livingstone got the start as well but could not stay till the end as he was run out by Sanju Samson.

The England star departed after scoring 21 off 14 balls. Ashutosh Sharma once again came up with a fine cameo to take PBKS close to the 150-run mark. The right-handed batsman smashed 31 runs off 16 balls with the help of four and three sixes. For RR, Avesh Khan and Keshav Maharaj picked up two wickets each.
