ODI World Cup 2023: The Schedule Will Be Released As Soon As Possible

International Cricket Council (ICC) chief executive Geoff Allardice confirmed that the ICC governing body will look to publish the fixtures of the 2023 ODI World Cup as soon as possible, as the teams can chart out their plans coming into the massive event in India.

The much-anticipated ICC World Cup 2023 is reportedly set to begin on October 5 October to 19 November 2023. Usually, the schedule for the World Cup is announced almost one year before the tournament. However, the BCCI has delayed the announcement of the fixtures as they awaiting confirmation from all the stakeholders involved in the event.
Earlier, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah said that the schedule will be out during the ongoing World Test Championship final between India and Australia. Speaking to BBC Test Match Special, ICC CEO Allardice, expects the schedule to be received from the hosts in the latter part of Wednesday, as they release the schedule as soon as possible.

“I think even today (Wednesday) we might be receiving the schedule from the hosts, and we’ve just got a bit of consultation to do with all the participating teams and the broadcasters. Then we’ll be publishing that as soon as we possibly can,” Geoff Allardice said

“And in some places, there’s a lot of consultation that needs to take place, both within the cricket system and with governments, etc. There’s a lot of responsibility on a host to deliver a good event, and they’ve got to go through the right checks and balances.”

Earlier it was stated that the BCCI is likely to announce the schedule after the conclusion of the ongoing IPL. As far as venues are concerned, Ahmedabad, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Kolkata, Delhi, Indore, Dharamsala, Guwahati, Rajkot, Raipur, and Mumbai are scheduled to host the games of the ICC World Cup 2023.

Geoff Allardice opened up about Pakistan’s refusal to play the event in India if the Asia Cup 2023 is moved out of the country, as he said that they will work on things after the schedule is released officially stating the different challenges in hosting the event in different nations.

“Until I see the schedule… I’m waiting, and I’m hoping that I’ll see something in the next day or two on that, Our events team is very experienced at putting on cricket events in all different countries, and you control what you control,” Geoff Allardice added.

The format of the tournament, there will be 45 league games, 2 semifinals, and a final. Total 10 teams will take part in the tournament. In the league stage, each team will play nine games, where eight have directly qualified for the World Cup, whereas two teams qualify through ODI World Cup qualifiers.
