His intention was never to deprive complainant John Huggins of his money.
As a result, said theft and money laundering accused, attorney Ernest Winston Jackman, he has repaid the complainant $390 000, which includes interest, and even offered him land as security for the balance of money he owed him.
“My intention was never to deprive Mr Huggins of his money and what I tried to do was to make every effort to make things right,” Jackman told the court yesterday.
The attorney was giving his defence when his trial continued in the No. 5 Supreme Court. He opted to remain in the dock for an unsworn statement.
The accused explained the three cheques which complainant Huggins spoke about in his evidence “occurred because I found myself in a situation where I could pay Mr Huggins”. (HLE)
