More Backstage News on Sasha Banks & Naomi Leaving Last Night’s WWE Raw
[ad_1]
– Shortly after WWE’s Monday Night Raw went live last night, Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of the show, refusing to wrestle in the advertised main event of a Six Pack Challenge to determine the next contender for Bianca Belair’s Raw women’s championship. According to a report from pwinsider.com, Banks and Naomi were to be featured in “two or three segments” building up to the idea that they would be facing off against each other in the Six Pack Challenge with the finish being a Naomi win. Naomi would then go onto face (and lose to) Belair at Hell in a Cell while over on Smackdown, the belief is that Sasha Banks was pegged to face (and lose to) Ronda Rousey at the same PPV. Effectively, the tag team champions were to be used to put over the respective Raw & Smackdown champions.
– Another pitched match for last night’s show was Banks and Naomi teaming up to take on a tag team (believed to be Nikki A.S.H and Doudrop) which would have led to a post-match beatdown to set up a different program. Ultimately, WWE producer Molly Holly informed Banks and Naomi that the creative team decided against that match and was sticking with the original plan of the Six Pack Challenge. Shortly after being told that, the two informed John Laurinaitis that they were not going to stick around, leaving their title belts in his office. Vince McMahon, meanwhile was sitting in the Gorilla Position and was informed of the talent leaving right after Raw went on air and he immediately approved the Becky Lynch/Adam Pearce segment, which was reportedly pitched on the spot by Lynch, to be inserted into the program to explain the change in direction.
– As reported already, while not confirmed, it is believed that Banks and Naomi were unhappy at how their tag team would be portrayed over the next several weeks after having put a lot of time and effort into building the duo since winning the tag titles. The creative that was apparently laid out would have put the team on the backburner in favor of using them in singles storylines until after Hell in a Cell.
