Former England spinner Monty Panesar has come down hard on Aamir Khan-starrer movie Laal Singh Chaddha. The much-talked about film is a remake of the Hollywood Oscar-winner Forrest Gump. The Bollywood film finally hit the theatres on Thursday (August 11) and has reportedly witnessed a below average response from the audience.

Even before the movie was released, it courted controversy after thousands of netizens urged everyone to boycott it. The reason behind the boycott calls was Aamir’s controversial statements in the past and the portrayal of Hindu religion in his movie PK. Recently, Aamir himself was asked to comment on the boycott calls and he had said:

“I do not want to hurt anyone, but if people don’t want to see the film, I would respect that too. There is not much you can do about that. But I would still want Laal Singh Chaddha to reach a wide audience. A movie is brought to life by a team of a hardworking crew and artistes, so I just hope people like it.”

Monty Panesar slams Laal Singh Chaddha:

Amidst the boycott calls, former England cricketer Monty Panesar has also slammed the film. Panesar took to Twitter to express his disappointment over the portrayal of Indian Armed Forces, Indian Army and Sikhs. Panesar did not like the idea of a ‘low IQ man’ making it to the Indian army as he called the film disrespectful and disgraceful.

“Forrest Gump fits in the US Army because the US was recruiting low IQ men to meet requirements for the Vietnam War. This movie is total disgrace to India Armed Forces Indian Army and Sikhs !!Disrespectful. Disgraceful. #BoycottLalSinghChadda,” wrote Monty Panesar.

Talking about Panesar’s cricket career, he played for England between March 2006 and December 2013. The former left-arm spinner made his debut against India in Nagpur and had famously dismissed the legendary Sachin Tendulkar in his maiden Test. The Ashes-winning spinner represented England in 50 Test matches, 26 ODIs and one T20I, and picked up 193 international wickets.
