MLW Fusion # 189 Results & Recap

We start this episode of Fusion with a video package showing the history of The Calling against the Second Gear Crew. From there, we go to the World Titan Federation headquarters and Mister Saint Laurent in his office.
He makes an announcement as the MLW booker that the winner of the World Title Match at Fightland between Alex Kane and Jacob Fatu will face Matt Cardona at MLW One-Shot in December.
MSL states that once Matt Cardona wins the Championship, it will be recognized as the World Title Federation Championship, meaning they will control MLW and have it by the balls. From there, we go into the intro music for the show.
Joe Dombrowski and Matt Striker are on commentary. The episode is coming from Philadelphia. Dombrowski announces the main event tonight for the MLW Tag Team Championship, as champions The Calling (RSP & Akira) take on The SGC (Matthew Justice & 1 Called Manders).
Next, we get a replay of last week when Jacob Fatu was named the challenger for Alex Kane’s World Championship at MLW Fightland. Dombrowski announced Jacob Fatu Vs. Mr. Thomas later on in the show.
Introductions for the opening contest take place. First, Talon from the Calling comes down, followed by Mance Warner from the SGC.
Mance Warner vs. Talon
Talon attacks Warner to start the contest. It is short-lived as Mancer makes a comeback and takes control of the match. It is a quick match, with Warner hitting Talon with a knee to the face to pick up the three count in a squash match.
Result: Mance Warner defeats Talon
We are shown clips of Tony Deppen and TJ Crawford attacking Kevin Blackwood. Dombrowski talks about Deppen taking to social media about his suspension. MLW officials responded by extending Deppen’s suspension.
Next, we go to Matt Cardona walking in a parking lot. MSL catches up to him. He tells him about his title shot at One-Shot and presents him with a brand-new BMW car. Cardona kisses the car and starts making out with it.
Dombrowski promotes the main event and says Jacob Fatu vs. Mr. Thomas is coming up next after the break.
Back from the break, MLW Heavyweight Champion Alex Kane is backstage and cuts a promo on Jacob Fatu. Kane then rushes off as the camera cuts showing Mr. Thomas laid out outside the building.
Next, there’s a Tom Lawlor video package. Then Lawlor is shown in Mister Saint Laurent’s office, waiting for MSL to get off the phone. MSL hangs up and tells Lawlor how the WTF is taking over. He had a problem with MLW having athletes like Lawlor but still promoting death matches. After this, a Calling video airs with RSP cutting a promo on Second Gear Crew.
Dombrowski gives breaking news, saying the match between Jacob Fatu and Mr. Thomas was canceled due to the attack on Thomas.
Fatu is backstage with Sam Laterna. Fatu spoke about not trusting Salina de la Renta. MSL shows up and offers Fatu a hot dog and a handshake, but he declines. MSL told Fatu to have eyes in the back of his head because Cardona was waiting. MSL said he had to get to a photo shoot with Cardona and his new car. Fatu talks about the new car, seeming to have something in mind as we go to a break.
After the break, Dombrowski talked about the attack on Mr. Thomas and said Jacob Fatu denied involvement.
Laterna interviewed Matt Cardona and spoke about his challenge for the MLW World Championship at One Shot. Cardona said he’s the king of NYC and wins championships. He said he came to MLW to win the world championship, and no one can stop him.
We go to the MLW Fightland Control Center segment. Dombrowski promotes the main event, champion Alex Kane vs. Jacob Fatu, for the MLW Heavyweight Championship. He also advertises Mance Warner vs. Matt Cardona in a loser leaves MLW match and Lucha tag team match between Rocky Romero & Barbaro Cavernario against Mascara Dorada & Ichiban.
Brett Ryan Gosselin vs. J Boujii (w/O’Shay Edwards)
Both competitors had moments in this match. Towards the end, Boujii dives over the ropes and goes for a sunset flip; however, Gosselin kneels on Boujii and holds onto the ropes to pick up the win.
Results: Brett Ryan Gosselin defeats J Boujii
Next, Love, Doug jumps out and scares a female wrestler who slaps him. Doug said he was trying to surprise B3CCA. Minoru Suzuki shows up and slaps Doug.
Alex Kane is shown speaking with other people backstage. One of them blamed Jacob Fatu for attacking Mr. Thomas. Kane goes to find Fatu. MSL is seen slipping cash to the person who blamed Fatu for the attack. We go to a commercial break.
Now back, Salina de la Renta is celebrating, claiming she got the best rating for Fusion last week as the show’s producer. She then says the MLW Featherweight Champion, Janai Kai, will appear on next week’s episode.
Dombrowski promotes MLW Featherweight Champion Janai Kai being in action next week, as well as Don King making a comment on Alex Kane vs. Jacob Fatu.
Now backstage, Kane and Fatu were being held apart by officials. A man shows them a video implicating Tom Lawlor as the attacker of Mr. Thomas. Kane storms off as we go to the entrances for the main event.
MLW Tag Team Championship Match: The Calling (Rickey Shane Page & Akira) (c) vs. Second Gear Crew (1 Called Manders & Matthew Justice)
Manders and Justice fight off other Calling members on their way to the ring. Both teams fight at ringside as we go to a break.
Out of the break, Manders and Justice were in control. Cannonball comes out to help RSP and Akira. RSP and Akira had some miscommunication, causing RSP to get upset and shove Akira.
Manders throws RSP off the apron through a table on the floor outside. Manders was then kicked by Akira sending him through another table at ringside. We’re down to Justice and Akira battling. The following person, through a table, loses.
Justice and Akira fight on the ropes above two tables inside the ring. Akira hooks Justice in a hold. Justice falls, causing both of them to go through the tables.
The ring announcer announces that the referee declared both wrestlers went through the tables at the same time and declared the match a draw.
Result: The Calling (RSP & Akira) battle Second Gear Crew (1 Called Manders & Matthew Justice) to a draw, The Calling retain the titles.
The fight continues after the match. Cannonball returns to help the Calling. Mance Warner runs down to help his SGC brothers. Security comes to try to break up the brawl that ensues.
Once The Calling was taken to the back, Warner cuts a promo in the ring with Manders and Justice. Justice says they should take it to a new level of violence the next time they face The Calling, and they should hang the belts above the ring.
Now backstage, Cardona points to where is new car was. He runs to the parking area, but his car wasn’t there. Alex Kane approaches Cardona and said does he have a problem? Jacob Fatu drives the car and honks the horn. Fatu drove away while Cardona ran after him as we went off the air.
