Krunal Pandya To Lead Lucknow Super Giants For Remainder Of Tournament; KL Rahul Ruled Out Due To Injury- Report
[ad_1]
If reports from PTI are to be believed, then Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) have been dealt a huge blow as captain KL Rahul is unlikely to take any further part in the IPL 2023 after suffering a leg injury. It was also said that Krunal Pandya will captain LSG in his place for the rest of the tournament.
KL Rahul suffered a hip flexor injury while fielding in the second over of the innings in their last IPL 2023 match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) at home, which the side lost by 18 runs despite needing to chase 127 to win.
Now Krunal Pandya had captained the LSG side after Rahul went off the field after his injury and being the designated vice-captain, PTI reported that Krunal will now take over the captaincy of the franchise for the remainder of the IPL 2023 tournament.
LSG are sitting on the third spot in IPL 2023 points table and Krunal Pandya will be leading the team in the game against Chennai Super Kings On May 3rd in Lucknow. They still have five more league games and potentially up to three more if they reach the final.
KL Rahul’s Participation In Rest Of IPL Left To BCCI
Rahul’s injury is serious enough for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) to intervene and take over the matter. LSG captain is still in Lucknow, where the team will take on Chennai Super Kings on Wednesday afternoon, but he will not be playing the game.
BCCI’s medical team will have Rahul undergo further scans in Mumbai, as the swelling has made it difficult to scan anything. His participation in the rest of IPL 2023 will be left to the decision of the BCCI, more appropriately by the medical team of the National Cricket Academy (NCA) in Bengaluru.
Rahul is contracted and moreover, is also part of the Test squad for the upcoming WTC Final against Australia, further complicating things.
