KL Rahul Back in India Squad For Asia Cup 2023?

Charismatic Indian opener KL Rahul might make a comeback in India’s squad for the Asia Cup 2023. The Bangalore boy last played an international game against Australia in March and was seen in action again in IPL 2023. He sustained a thigh injury during the latest IPL season while fielding against RCB and later underwent successful surgery in Germany.

Post-surgery, Rahul started his rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy on the 13th of June, and as per some reports, BCCI will conduct a fitness test on the 18th of August at the NCA to finalize his participation in the forthcoming Asia Cup 16th edition which will kickstart on 30th August with the match between host Pakistan and Nepal.

Since the absence of KL Rahul, the Indian cricket team has faced several issues in their team regarding balance. Players replacing him in the team such as Ishan Kishan and Sanju Samson have not been much impressive to make us forget him. Rahul has served as the first-choice wicket-keeper for the team after the severe car accident of regular wicket-keeper Rishabh Pant.

In 2023, the ace batter’s number speaks volumes about his value in the team, amassing 226 runs in 6 ODI matches at a staggering average of 56.50, including 2 fifties.

In the recent ODI series against West Indies, Team India collapsed badly twice amid resting big players like Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma. Hence it is clear that in a big marquee tournament like Asia Cup, having the likes of KL Rahul will be a huge boost for the team and provide stability in the middle-order.

India will begin their continental cup campaign with a blockbuster battle against Pakistan on the 2nd of September.
