The Caribbean Premier League (CPL) is scheduled to be held from August 26 to September 15 across the West Indies and Trinidadian cricketer Kieron Pollard should be one of the favorites for many. He has been one of the best performers in the tournament and is to play for the Trinbago Knight Riders this season.

The 35-year-old fast-bowling all-rounder scored 58 (not out) runs in 30 balls batting for the Trinbago Knight Riders in the league stage of CPL 2021 against Barbados Royals and thereafter 41 in 29 balls against Saint Lucia Kings. Similarly, he pocketed 51 runs in 22 balls with 5 sixes and three 4s against St Kitts & Nevis Patriots and helped the team to open the doors of the semi-final. He grabbed the fame of Player of the Match.

Even though Trinbago Knight Riders lost the semi-final by 21 runs, the super performance of Kieron Pollard is still afresh among fans and is believed his magic could be re-witnessed this year.

It is simultaneously not to forget his outstanding performance in the 2020 CPLT20. He scored 72 runs in 28 balls with nine 6s and two 4s in a league stage match against Barbados Tridents. He was announced Player of the Series. Trinbago Knight Riders won the final match by 8 wickets defeating St Lucia Zouks.

Kieron Pollard Bio

Kieron Pollard started his cricket career playing for his country in the TCL Group West Indies Under-19 Challenge in 2005. He scored 54 runs off 49 balls playing against Pakistan and thereafter made another half-century in the same tour. He was selected for the Under-19 Cricket World Cup in 2006.

Representing the West Indies in international cricket, he became the captain of his team for both ODIs and T20s in 2019. A year later, he became the first player to play 500 T20 matches.

Pollard became one of the most sought-after players in the Indian Premier League (IPL) auction in 2010 after his outstanding performances in the Big Bash and the 2009 Champions League T20. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Mumbai Indians, Kolkata Knight Riders and Chennai Super Kings voiced the maximum bid of $750,000. A tiebreak paved his path to the Mumbai Indians.

Apart from Trinidad and Tobago, Trinbago Knight Riders and Mumbai Indians, he has represented South Australia, Somerset, Dhaka Gladiators, Adelaide Strikers, Barbados Tridents, Cape Cobras, Karachi Kings, Dhaka Dynamites, Melbourne Renegades, Multan Sultans, St Lucia Stars and Peshawar Zalmi.

Earlier this year, he announced his retirement from international cricket.

Trinbago Knight Riders

Trinbago Knight Riders is a franchise cricket team and one of the six teams of the Caribbean Premier League (CPL). It is based in Port of Spain and plays home matches at the Queen’s Park Oval ground. Kieron Pollard is the captain while Imran Jan serves as the coach.

Initially named the Trinidad and Tobago Red Steel, the team grabbed its first win of the CPL in 2015, the third edition of the tournament, by defeating the Barbados Tridents by 20 runs on the home ground.

The parent company of the Kolkata Knight Riders of IPL, Red Chilies Entertainment led by Indian Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan and businessman Jay Mehta (husband of Indian Bollywood actress Juhi Chawla), bought a stake in it in 2015. Following the grand victory in the final, the team was renamed Trinbago Knight Riders.

CPLT20

Founded in 2013 by replacing the Caribbean Twenty20, the CPLT20 is an annual tournament held across the West Indies. Six teams from the region take part and the first edition was won by the Jamaica Tallawahs. Each team plays ten matches in the group stage including three at home ground and moves to a knockout stage. A total of six stadiums are used in the tournament.

The six teams are Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Jamaica Tallawahs, St Kitts & Nevis Patriots, Saint Lucia Kings and Trinbago Knight Riders. The six venues include Queen’s Park Oval in Trinidad and Tobago, Warner Park in St Kitts and Nevis, and Brian Lara Cricket Academy in Trinidad and Tobago.

The tournament is administered by the Cricket West Indies and the current champion is St Kitts and Nevis Patriots. The most successful team in all the nine editions combined is Trinidad Knight Riders.
