It’s time for a Street Profits split to elevate both men as individuals

The Street Profits have remained a prominent duo in the WWE tag division, yet they’ve failed to topple the Usos as the undisputed tag team champions. Their continued placement as top contenders have run its course and it’s time to have a serious conversation about splitting this group. Both men have the skills necessary to have strong runs as singles performers and it’s time to see how that plays out for both Montez Ford and Angelo Dawkins.
Early conversations about The Street Profits highlighted Ford as the individual that would have a standout run as a singles performer. While that may still be the case, do not forget about Dawkins and what he would bring to the roster as a singles performer. Fightful Select reported on Dawkins’s performances impressing WWE officials, so much so that his increase in singles matches has been intentional across the board. According to the report, his improvements in his physique, in-ring skills, and style all caught the attention to those backstage.
This is an important development because it benefits both men when the time comes for them to split. Often, a split ends up with one individual getting pushed to the top, while another may get a mid-card run before ending up as an afterthought, shuttled away to the 24/7 championship circuit, or worse. With this news, it looks like that will not be the case for the Street Profits.
Hopefully, WWE does not go the route of Dawkins and Ford having a falling out that leads to one of them (most likely Ford) becoming a heel. While it would be an interesting changeup to see how he would manage a run as a heel character, wrapped up in the idea that he’s becoming the superstar that many expect him to become, that doesn’t have to happen to put these men on a separate path. Take the New Day, for example, they’ve each gone on their own single runs that haven’t required the played-out pro wrestling split. The Street Profits should get the same placement.
There was a rumored WWE Draft on the horizon and that would be the perfect opportunity to separate this team. Moving Ford to Raw and Dawkins to SmackDown allows both men to experience new runs on their own. Think of matches like Dawkins versus Gunther for the Intercontinental Championship or Ford taking on Matt Riddle, Chad Gable, or even a returning Cody Rhodes. Fans would be excited about all those opportunities.
As WWE heads to the end of 2022 and creeps up on WrestleMania season 2023, one of the substantial changes that should occur is the split of the Street Profits. This doesn’t mean that one individual would get left by the wayside, but there’s an opportunity to see them both go on their own runs as strong singles performers.
