IPL 2023: When Your Role Is Defined, You Have Clarity About It

[ad_1]

Gujarat Titans all-rounder Rahul Tewatia revealed that he has been working for the last few years in the specialized finisher role for his team. The 29-year-old stayed calm and composed against Punjab Kings pacer Sam Curran in the last over to finish the match for the defending champions.

Rahul Tewatia, spoke about the role of a finisher, as he credited Rajasthan Royals for giving him the role of a finisher in IPL 2020, where he was given clarity to perform in that role. In IPL 2020,  Rajasthan Royals batter hit 5 sixes against Punjab Kings bowler Sheldon Cottrell in Sharjah.

“Nothing happens overnight. I was given this role in 2020 when I was with Rajasthan Royals. When your role is defined, you have clarity about it. When you are batting at 6-7, you are likely to bat in such [crunch] situations 8-9 times in 14 league games,” Rahul Tewatia said.

Tewatia asserted that he has been practising the role of finisher for the last three to four years and said that he used to practice using a lot of match stimulation which helps to finish the match under pressure.

“I have been practicing for this in the last three to four years. I practice and set targets for myself through match simulations, which gives me an idea of how to finish matches.

The Gujarat Titans all-rounder held his nerve in the last over to chase down the total against Punjab Kings. With 4 runs to win in the final two balls, he played a paddled sweep to win the third match for the Titans side.

One Match Cannot Change Anything – Rahul Tewatia On Yash Dayal’s Disappointing Performance

Rahul Tewatia backed the Yash Dayal to make a comeback into the side as the left-arm pacer failed to defend 29 runs in the last over as his state-mate Rinku Singh took him for the cleaners in Ahmedabad on Sunday.

“You never know how strong the comeback can be. It’s a nothing to lose situation because nothing worse can happen. His mindset is quite good.

The left-arm pacer failed miserably in the last over against Kolkata Knight Riders as his state-mate Rinku Singh took him for the cleaners in Ahmedabad.

“Last season, he was one of our main bowlers. He had a big role to play in us becoming champions. He was claiming wickets with the new ball and doing very well with the old ball as well. One match cannot change anything,” Rahul Tewatia added.

Rinku Singh went all guns blazing in the final over, as Yash Dayal could not execute his plan as he landed three full tosses and two slower ones which found no match to Rinku’s batting exploits.
