According to the reports in Indian Express,  Team India Chief Selector Ajit Agarkar, head coach Rahul Dravid and captain Rohit Sharma had a long discussion regarding the role of Suryakumar Yadav in the team, as they want to utilize his power-hitting capability batting at death overs for India as he has the ability to take on the pacer and spinners at any stage of the innings.

With ODI World Cup set to be played at home, The West Indies series has been crucial for the Indian team to fix their playing 11 for the marquee event in the country.

As for the team concerned Shubman Gill, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, Hardik Pandya, and Ravindra Jadeja have already sealed their spot in the playing 11 with few players fighting for their spots in the team.

Earlier, Indian head coach Rahul Dravid said that they are no doubt about the ability of the World N0.1 T20 batters, as he performed exceedingly well in the T20 format of the game, admitting that he hasn’t shown prowess in ODI cricket.

Moreover, he reckons that he hasn’t played much ODI cricket before coming into the Indian setup, which probably would have made it tough for him.

“I think Surya is a really good player. There is no doubt about it. His performances have shown that especially in T20 cricket and even in domestic cricket.”

“Unfortunately, I think he will be the first one to address that his ODI numbers have probably not been up to the high standards that he has set in the T20, but he is also learning about ODI cricket,” Rahul Dravid said on Suryakumar Yadav’s form in ODI cricket.

The No.4 spot in the ODI team is still up for grabs after Shreyas Iyer’s injury just like in the 2019 World Cup where India played Ambati Rayudu as a specialized batter before the marquee event and four years later, India is still finding out hard to fix N0.4 position going into the marquee event.

The Mumbaikar was handed the spot in the ODI format of the game after his impressive performance in T20Is. However, he failed to utilize the opportunity to perform for the team. The 32-year-old has scored only 2 half-centuries in the 25 matches, he has played so far in ODIs with a poor average of 23.8.
