India will be gearing up for the fourth and last test match of the Border Gavaskar Trophy ( BGT) 2023, at Ahmedabad. The home side is leading the series by 2-1 against Australia, Men in Blue needs to win the last test match to qualify for the World Test Championship (WTC) final, whereas Aussies have reached WTC Final after avoiding the clean sweep in the series.
Indian ace batter Virat Kohli has struggled in the BGT 2023 series with 111 runs in five innings. In the second test match at Delhi, Kohli was stumped on Todd Murphy’s delivery in the second innings of the test match, Australian assistant coach Daniel Vettori reminded Murphy impact in the series, and he answered that the ace Indian batter has never been stumped in the longer format of the game before Todd’s delivery.

“Steve Smith singled him out around his performances in the last Test. His spell allowed everyone around him to take those wickets,”
“The fact that Kohli had never been stumped before that Test match in Delhi when Murphy got him out,” said the Australian assistant coach.
The incident that the former Kiwi spinner reckons speaks volumes about Murphy, happened when visitors were chasing the target of 115 runs in the second test of BGT, Kohli advances at Murphy’s delivery in the 19th over, and the wrist spinner beats the former Indian skipper in the air and on the outside edge, Alex Carey gathers the ball took the bails off. The right-handed batter was dismissed for 20 runs by stumping off 22-year-old spinner bowling.
“For such a young spinner, and inexperienced spinners as well, he hasn’t played that much first-class cricket to be able to come here and handle these tough situations and perform the role that’s required has been impressive,” he further added.
The Victorian lad grabbed his Baggy Green cap in the first test of BGT at Nagpur, he has taken a total of 11 wickets in five innings till now in the series and his test career. The crafty spinner has also dismissed ace Indian batter three times out of five occasions in the Australia tour of India 2023.

“Ever since I’ve started watching Lyon bowl I’ve marveled at him. As a fellow finger-spinner who can’t do what he did, there’s always that element of his ability to bowl that ball which is so impressive. We saw him at his absolute best in this Test,” said Vettori on Nathan Lyon’s performance in the BGT 2023.
Kohli has also not managed to cross the 50-run mark since stepping down as captain in January last year. Since then, he has played 8 Tests and his highest score has been only 45. The 34-year-old is known for comebacks, so, he will be looking to turn things around when India takes on Australia in the fourth and final Test, while the match is scheduled to be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad from March 9.
