How does the points table shape up after Saturday’s double header?
[ad_1]
In today’s doubleheader, Mumbai Indians Women clashed against the UP Warriorz Women and the Royal Challengers Bangalore Women faced the Gujarat Giants. The points table has become quite interesting after today’s match as no team apart from Mumbai Indians have yet qualified for the playoffs.
Mumbai registered their first loss of the tournament. Everyone in the UP Warriorz camp was happy. Due to the way, they bowled today and Healy’s superb captaincy, they were the deserving winners. This wasn’t a pitch with a low rating. MI made some headway but wasted it. Together, Ecclestone, Deepti, and Gayakwad applied the brakes. To help MI reach 127, Wong made a useful cameo. The Warriorz were struggling in the pursuit at 33/3, but after Yastika misplayed the first ball, McGrath took the hit and launched a counterattack to quicken the pace. Ecclestone, Harris, and Deepti were able to gain two significant points for their team while calming the crowd. Deepti Sharma was rightly awarded the player of the match for her brilliant all-round performance. With this win, the UP Warriorz are at the third place in the points table with 6 points. MI are still at the top of the tree with 10 points.
The second game between RCB and Gujarat was just about brilliant batsmanship. On any given day, on whatever surface, 188 is a challenging target. Forget about it when you have to pursue it to remain competitive and work to increase the net run rate instead. Today’s innings was one to remember as Devine pounded the bowlers mercilessly, sparing no one. A 24-run second over against Gardner got things underway, and Tanuja Kanwar followed with another sizable over. On the powerplay, RCB scored a whopping 77 runs, and to add to the celebration, their captain Mandhana rediscovered her form.
Nevertheless, Sophie Devine wasn’t going to stop, slamming 8 sixes and 9 fours throughout her innings. While she was set to match the fastest women’s T20 Hundred, she was out for 99. Even still, that was the highest WPL score, so there was some fault there. The task that their openers had left for them to finish was finished by Ellyse Perry and Heather Knight. In the end, RCB successfully chased 188 with more than four overs remaining. This gave a massive boost to their net run rate.
