Public Health officials are keeping their eyes on a flu-like bug that’s going around in Barbados.

This was revealed last night by the country’s COVID-19 public advisor, David Ellis.

Speaking on national television, Ellis pleaded with Barbadians to show a level of personal and mature responsibility over the next few days, when several social events are slated to be held over the Easter weekend.

“There is some kind of bug that is going around. We suspect it’s a flu bug, but it is also presenting in a way, with diarrhoea and some vomiting, but while we continue to get to the bottom of it, because we need to be certain about what it is, we still have to be exceedingly cautious,” he said.

Ellis added that Barbados’ recent surge in new infections of COVID-19 should be enough to remind citizens the country was nowhere out of the woods.

“What we are seeing here is a movement in the numbers which a number of people may say, it’s not Delta (a variant of COVID-19) it’s just Omicron (the prevalent variant currently affecting Barbados) , and some messages have been sent out there that I believe is helping create the challenges we will all face.”(BA)
