Fans Slam ECB For Distasteful Tweet On Virat Kohli, Call Out ‘Unreal Hate’
[ad_1]
ECB is facing the heat from the Indian fans on social media after posting a distasteful tweet on Virat Kohli following the conclusion of the rescheduled Test at Edgbaston.
After being on the backfoot for the first three days at Edgbaston, England bounced back in style to win the Test by seven wickets against India. Not many were predicting a win for England after day three of the game ended.
In the first innings, India had thoroughly dominated the hosts to put themselves in the driver’s seat. Asked to bat first, the visitors recovered from 98 for 5 to post a big total of 416 thanks to centuries from Rishabh Pant and Ravindra Jadeja.
In reply, England were all out for just 284 despite a quickfire century from Jonny Bairstow. India then went on to finish day three on 125 for 3 to extend their lead to 257 runs. However, the scenario changed completely on day four as England put up a stunning performance with both bat and ball.
They picked up the remaining Indian wickets for just 120 runs to bowl out the tourists for 245. The Ben Stokes-led side then went on to chase down a record 378 runs with utmost ease. Bairstow and Joe Root scored unbeaten tons to take their team home inside 90 minutes on the final day.
It was England’s highest-ever successful chase in Test while it was the first occasion when India failed to defend a 350-plus total in the longest format of the game. With England winning the Test, the five-match series ended at 2-2.
ECB slammed for distasteful tweet on Virat Kohli:
While England are being praised all over the world for their display, their cricket board ECB is facing the flak for a distasteful tweet on Virat Kohli. The former India skipper recently grabbed the headlines for his antics during the Edgbaston Test.

Kohli was involved in a heated exchange with Bairstow and had also celebrated Alex Lees’ dismissal in the second innings in a wild manner. ECB used the image of Kohli’s exchange with Bairstow and another image of the India star hugging the England batsman after the game to take a dig at him.

As expected, the fans were furious with the tweet from an official handle and slammed ECB for the same.
Here are some of the reactions to the tweet:
BCCI will never stoop to this low just for clout even after doing a 5-0 whitewash. Chill it’s still 2-2 and that too in English conditions. https://t.co/O87BtHFxNN

Series drawn at home and Kohli lives in their head rent free.

They are the happier side, even after they could only manage to draw the series at home. That too courtesy of rain, otherwise it would have been 3-2.
Speaks volumes of this Indian test side. Chin up boys, drawing a series in England used to be a dream, a few years back. #INDvENG https://t.co/fN8FSoBllP— Sachin Tomar (@sachin_tomar_) July 6, 2022
Such a poor take by official handle… can’t troll the greatest player of his era https://t.co/3b41NJHaE4

Using an official team account to tweet this shows more about how much Kohli seems to get under the skin of the opposition – more of a compliment to him than what they perhaps intended. https://t.co/RXtzdNgdl8

Shows the state of your side that you’re celebrating a 2-2 draw @ home. Enjoy your win, you outplayed us in the last innings and are deserved winners. But don’t get ahead of yourself. Once that ball changes, it’ll come crashing down. https://t.co/2rFBNg5CUy

@TheBarmyArmy doing this is fine as i expect the banter from fan groups its normal. Official England twitter or any playing nation shouldn’t be doing this. https://t.co/sVehsh1uNJ
