Former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar reckoned that Virat Kohli will have to distance himself from social media but also try to use any sort of criticism as motivation to succeed.
Kohli’s chances to cement his place in the T20I squad for the T20 World Cup in Australia continue to dwindle with him having been rested for the upcoming West Indies tour. He needs to make the most of any opportunity he gets at this point to get out of the rut.
“Forget all of the criticism, stay away from social media. When I met Kohli, he was very young and had a lot of aggression, desire, and hunger.
“The hunger is still there, he is just lacking in form, so what? I just want to say to the Indians to stay calm, the greatest player should not be treated this way,” Akhtar said on his YouTube channel.
“He should return with a method, because the ability is there” – Shoaib Akhtar
Akhtar also reckoned that Kohli needs to find out a different method to score runs as the style of play he has isn’t working at this point. He will need to adapt his game in order to stack up some runs.
“Kohli should take all of the negative comments and lock them inside and use it as fuel, but he should be focused. Stay relaxed and enjoy the ride, I completely back him as a Pakistani.”
“He should return with a method, because the ability is there. Forget about the captaincy, the IPL [Indian Premier League], just block out whatever has happened. I fully believe that Kohli will end his career on a really high note,” he added.
