ENG vs AFG Dream11 Prediction & Fan2Play Possible 11 Pitch Report: T20 World Cup 2022 Match 14 | ENG vs AFG Dream11 Prediction Today | Perth Pitch Report
As opposed to Sydney and Melbourne, Perth is expected to be mostly sunny, with a fast pitch to boot. Also, two teams that love to throw caution to the wind – England and Afghanistan – can offer entertainment in spades. So, what more could you ask for on day one of the T20 World Cup Super 12s?
After a difficult middle period of the year, England have found their usual white-ball mojo. A solid, impressive 2-0 series win over Australia followed a gritty 4-3 triumph in Pakistan, with Jos Buttler’s team not only taking the attack to their opponents, but also winning the key moments. With a number of hard-hitting batting options and wicket-taking potential at all stages of the innings, England are well poised to make a big run towards their first T20 World Cup title since 2010.
However, the unfortunate injury to Reece Topley is a situation they must overcome. Fellow left-armer Sam Curran is one of the bowlers who will need to fill the void, along with the exciting, quick Mark Wood who can be one of the World Cup’s biggest surprise packets.
While England start as favourites, writing off Afghanistan is never a good idea. They too have their fair share of quality in their attack, and can score runs at a rapid pace. However, how effectively they deal with England’s pace bowling at Perth will be the big question. If they can pull off an upset win, it will throw Group 1 wide open immediately and ramp up the pressure on Jos Buttler’s team.
ENG vs AFG Possible Playing XI
In a huge blow for England, Reece Topley is out of the World Cup with ankle ligament damage after tripping on the boundary triangle in training. Tymal Mills has replaced him in the squad.
Also, Liam Livingstone (ankle) and Chris Woakes (quad) may need to pass late fitness tests.
England: 1. Jos Buttler (c & wk), 2. Alex Hales, 3. Dawid Malan, 4. Ben Stokes, 5. Liam Livingstone, 6. Moeen Ali, 7. Sam Curran, 8. Chris Woakes/David Willey, 9. Chris Jordan, 10. Adil Rashid, 11. Mark Wood
Rahmanullah Gurbaz is expected to play after he was struck on the foot by a Shaheen Shah Afridi delivery in the warm up match.
Afghanistan: 1. Hazratullah Zazai, 2. Rahmanullah Gurbaz (wk), 3. Ibrahim Zadran, 4. Darwish Rasooli/Usman Ghani, 5. Najibullah Zadran, 6. Mohammad Nabi (c), 7. Azmatullah Omarzai, 8. Rashid Khan, 9. Mujeeb Ur Rahman, 10. Naveen-ul-Haq, 11. Fazalhaq Farooqi

Key Players to Watch/Key Stats
England:
- A number of England players have experience playing at Optus Stadium in Perth, including Alex Hales. Hales smashed 85 recently against Australia, part of 195 runs in four matches on this ground at an average of 48.75 and strike rate of 140.29.
- Skipper Jos Buttler struck 68 off 32 balls in the same match. In fact, Buttler was player of the series against Australia, with 150 runs at an average of 75.00 and strike rate of 174.41.
- Liam Livingstone in T20s at Perth Stadium: 11 inns, 337 runs, avg. 30.64, SR 134.80.
- Moeen Ali is England’s leading run-scorer in T20Is this year, with 458 in 17 innings at an average of 32.71 and strike rate of 164.15. Also, Moeen may get a bowl against Afghanistan’s left-handers Hazratullah Zazai and Najibullah Zadran.
- Sam Curran was outstanding in the recent Australia series. He was a game-changer with his bowling and fielding, as he finished with five wickets, one catch and one run out in two matches.
- Expect Mark Wood to be a factor on the Perth pitch. He had the ball flying through in the T20I against Australia earlier this month, where he turned the match with figures of 3/34.
Afghanistan:
- Rahmanullah Gurbaz is having a year to remember. The opener has smashed 935 runs at an average of 29.22 and strike rate of 157.41. However, he has struggled a touch against left-arm seam in T20s this year (81 balls, 84 runs, three dismissals), so the battle against Sam Curran and possibly David Willey will be interesting.
- Najibullah Zadran has fast become Afghanistan’s key man in the middle order. He is their leading run-scorer in T20Is this year, with 327 at an average of 29.72 and strike rate of 149.31.
- Ibrahim Zadran in T20Is this year: 10 matches, 287 runs, avg. 41.00, SR 113.88.
- Rashid Khan has a higher-than-usual bowling strike rate of 22.8 in 15 T20Is this year. In two T20s at Perth, Rashid has taken one wicket, but has only conceded 4.25 per over. Can he take big wickets on a fresh Perth track?
- Mujeeb Ur Rahman has enjoyed success on this ground. He has taken three wickets in two matches at an average of 11.00 and economy of just 4.13.
- Eight of Fazalhaq Farooqi’s 17 wickets in T20Is this year have come in the powerplay. He is averaging 18.2 with an economy of just 5.62 in this phase.
Other Stats and Facts
- Head-to-head: Matches 2, England 2, Afghanistan 0.
- The last time the teams met in a T20I was in the 2016 World Cup. England won a tight match by 16 runs, courtesy of Moeen Ali’s 41* (33) and 1/17.
- Alex Hales has scored 238 runs against left-arm seam this year at an average of 39.67 and strike rate of 172.46. Jos Buttler’s numbers are: 224 runs, avg. 79.33, SR 145.45. So, both may enjoy the matchup against Fazalhaq Farooqi.
- Mohammad Nabi has scored just 146 runs at an average of 13.27 and strike rate of 115.87 in T20Is this year.
- Chris Jordan in T20s at Perth Stadium: 8 inns, 11 wickets, avg. 22.18, SR 15.27.
Optus Stadium Perth Pitch Report and Weather
Mostly clear conditions are forecast for Perth, but a cool evening is expected, so there may be dew. However, chasing teams have won just one of the past six men’s T20s on this ground, which makes for an interesting decision for whoever wins the toss.
The overall run rate in these six games is 7.92, boosted by the 208 vs 200 match between England and Australia earlier this month. Pacers concede 7.84 per over, compared to wristspin (7.58) and fingerspin (7.14).
