Sri Lanka skipper Dasun Shanaka has finally broken his silence over being snubbed at last year’s IPL auction. The hard-hitting middle-order batsman had registered his name in the auction for the upcoming season of the tournament.

He, however, could not attract a single bid during the mini-auction and went unsold. But it did not take Dasun Shanaka long to show the IPL franchises that they were wrong to snub him. The hard-hitting middle-order batsman came up with a stunning batting display during the T20I series against India last month.

He impressed with both bat and ball. In the first T20I, the Sri Lanka skipper smashed 45 off just 27 balls as his team nearly pulled off a win. In the second game, he played a whirlwind knock of 56 runs off just 22 balls with the help of 2 fours and 6 sixes. He also took two wickets while bowling the final over to guide his team to a win.

In the third T20I, he scored 23 runs off 17 balls. It was followed by a fine unbeaten century in the first ODI of the three-match series against the Men in Blue.

Dasun Shanaka reacts to IPL snub:

Speaking to Hindustan Times, Dasun Shanaka has finally reacted to the IPL snub. The Sri Lanka star explained the reason behind his success on Indian pitches, saying that the conditions help him play his natural aggressive game.

“When it comes to India, the pitches are batting friendly. So, I enjoy those conditions very much. It’s (aggressive batting) in my game, my instinctive reactions come to play there,” he said.

Speaking further, he stated that he did not mind the IPL snub. He, however, is still hopeful of playing in the IPL in the coming years.

“I don’t mind that I didn’t get picked in the IPL. I’m sure there will be something for me in India in the future. So I’m looking forward for that opportunity to play in the IPL,” Dasun Shanaka said.

As of now, Dasun Shanaka is busy playing for Dubai Capitals – a sister franchise of IPL side Delhi Capitals – at the International League T20.
