Backstage Reaction To Sasha Banks & Naomi Walking Out Of WWE Raw Revealed [Report]

[ad_1]

Sasha Banks and Naomi walked out of this week’s WWE Raw taping, forcing the company to make late changes to the program.

As previously noted, the Women’s Tag Team Champions walked out of Raw due to frustration with the plans for the Raw main event. Apparently, there was going to be a Six-Pack Challenge match to determine Bianca Belair’s next challenger for the Raw Women’s Championship.

In a statement, WWE announced that Banks and Naomi placed the championship belts on the desk of John Laurinaitis’ office (with briefcases in their hands) and “claimed they weren’t respected enough as tag team champions”. In the main event, Asuka defeated Becky Lynch to set up a match with Belair at the June 5 HIAC pay-per-view.

Speaking on the PWTorch audio show (h/t WrestlingNews.co), Wade Keller provided details on the backstage reaction of last night’s incident. Citing sources, Keller reported that “the locker room and management are puzzled by the reaction and the actions of Sasha and Naomi.”

Keller added that people in the company “are just kind of shaking their heads”, and people he spoke to believe Banks was “overreacting to a normal day at work”. Finally, he added that there isn’t “a ton of instant sympathy” for Banks or Naomi backstage, and that there’s confusion over how the Women’s Tag Team Champions got “themselves so worked up over this.”

As previously noted, the plan was reportedly for Naomi to win the Six-Pack Challenge. In the aforementioned statement, WWE expressed “regret” over not being able to perform the initially planned main event bout.

WWE Reportedly Considered Major Plans For Sasha Banks

Though Naomi was seemingly about to be booked for a main event feud with Belair, WWE reportedly had major plans for Banks as a singles competitor as well. According to Mike Johnson of PWInsider.com, some in WWE believed “an angle would have also been shot for Sasha Banks to wrestle and lose to” current SmackDown Women’s Champion Ronda Rousey.

Rousey defeated Charlotte Flair to win the title at WrestleMania Backlash, and The Queen will be off television for the time being as she and Andrade El Idolo get ready to tie the knot. Rousey is in need of a new opponent, but it’s hard to envision WWE booking a feud with Banks following last night’s saga.
