Arsenal climbed to the top of the Premier League after a thrilling midweek match, leaving Liverpool behind for a day at least.

The Gunners secured a 2-0 victory over Luton on Wednesday, a team fighting to avoid relegation.

It was a comfortable night for Arsenal. The match was off to a promising start for Arsenal with Martin Odegaard scoring the opener.

A mishap by Daiki Hashioka of Luton, who accidentally scored an own goal, added to Arsenal’s lead before halftime. The comfortable lead allowed Arsenal to temporarily move one point ahead of Liverpool in the intense three-way title race.

Both Manchester City and Liverpool also have a chance to take the lead again with their upcoming matches. Manchester City are currently in third place. Liverpool also will have a chance to reclaim the lead in their upcoming match against Sheffield United on Thursday.

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta took advantage of playing a team battling relegation and gave some of his starters a rest. He made five changes from the team that previously drew with Manchester City. Bukayo Saka was notably absent due to an injury sustained at the Etihad Stadium.

Even without key players, the Gunners controlled the game from the start.

Emile Smith Rowe was a star in the first half, setting up both goals. He set up Odegaard for the opening goal. Smith Rowe was instrumental in the second goal as well, which was initially credited to Reiss Nelson but later changed to an own goal by Hashioka.

Luton has a reputation for causing upsets this season, but Arsenal avoided any late scares this time. Arsenal confidently maintained their lead in the second half.

The result left Luton in the 18th spot, still three points away from safety.
