The cricket world was rocked on Sunday following former Australia allrounder Andrew Symonds’ tragic death. The legendary cricketer passed away aged 46 after a car accident in Queensland, where he was living after retiring from the game. Symonds was involved in a single-vehicle accident on Saturday night. According to the police statement, his car left the road near Alice River Bridge and rolled. The emergency services attempted to revive Symonds but the former cricketer lost the battle.

Symonds is survived by wife Laura and young children Chloe and Billy. Symonds’ tragic death has thrown the cricket world in mourning. Tributes have been pouring in from all the quarters for the legendary cricketer. After making his debut for Australia in 1998, Symonds represented his national team in 26 Tests, 198 One-Day Internationals and 14 T20Is. In Tests, he scored 1462 runs at an average of 40.61 and picked up 24 wickets with his handy off-spin and medium-pace bowling.

His impact in ODIs was more. Symonds scored 5088 runs and took 133 wickets in the 50-over format. He was also a part of the Australian team that won the World Cups in 2003 and 2007. Symonds finished his World Cup campaigns with two winners’ medals, an average of 103 and a strike rate of more than 93. He also plied his trade in the Indian Premier League, representing Deccan Chargers and Mumbai Indians. In just his third IPL game, he has smashed a blistering century and also helped Deccan Chargers win the title in 2009.

Symonds’ last post is about the tragic death of his former Australia teammate Shane Warne. The legendary leg-spinner passed away a couple of months ago after suffering a suspected heart-attack. Posting a couple of pictures with Warne from his playing days, Symonds had expressed his grief over his mate’s death, writing:

“Devastated, I’m hoping this is all a bad dream I just can’t get my head around never seeing you again. Love to all the Warne family I’m speechless”
