With Rohit Sharma being ruled out of the India VS England test to be played in Edgbaston, Jasprit Bumrah one of the best Indian Bowlershas been handed over the captaincy of the Indian Test Team. It is very rare that we see an Indian bowler captaining the team. Even on the international level, we find it difficult. There have been only a few successful captains who were bowlers. Imran Khan, Kapil Dev, Daniel Vettori, and Courtney Walsh are a few notable ones. So, here is a look at the other bowlers who have been captain of the Indian test team: 

1) S Venkat Raghavan was one of the Indian Bowlers and Captain of the Indian Test Team: 

S Venkat Raghavan was the Captain of the Indian Cricket Team for the first 2 World Cups. He was the one who led the Indian Cricket Team to its first-ever victory in the World Cup. He was a right-arm orthodox, off-break bowler. Raghavan was highly regarded by all the members of his team. He was a strong disciplinarian. He represented India in 57 Test Matches. He also has an engineering degree! He has been honored with the Padma Shri.  

2) Bishan Singh Bedi was one of the Indian Bowlers and Captain of the Indian Test Team: 

Bishan Singh Bedi, the original “Turbanator” was another bowler who led India in Test Cricket. Very well known for his left-arm spin, BS Bedi was taking wickets by the truck-load in his prime. Because of BS Bedi and his performance at the top level, many domestic Indian legends had to miss out. An example of sheer dominance in the ideal conditions was Bishi Pa! He used to see the ball rip some mud off from the wicket and he knew it was his time to shine. He flighted the ball effectively.  

3) Kapil Dev was Captain of the Indian Test Team:

Kapil Dev and his contribution to Indian Cricket will never be forgotten. The Haryana Hurricane was a leader in the true sense. To get the Cup home in the early days of the sport is an absolute work of art and this is exactly what Kapil Dev did. Dev today inspires a million. The story of the 1983 team gives goosebumps to the audience and Kapil was the hero of this movie. He was a megastar and made Indians realize that we are meant for the global stage. He played 131 games for India.  

4) Anil Kumble was Captain of the Indian Test Team:

Anil Kumble is the greatest match-winner that India produced as claimed by Gautam Gambhir. Jumbo, as he was called by his fellow mates, also led the Indian test team before MS Dhoni stepped in as captain. Anil was a leader always. His performance with a broken jaw, his 10 wickets in an innings, and his performance overall speak volumes of the determination and the qualities that he possesses. He played 132 test matches for the Indian Test Team.
