Indian domestic star Sarfaraz Khan feels it is very important to maintain his form as long as possible to make it into the Indian team taking inspiration from his fellow state-mate Suryakumar Yadav. Sarfaraz Khan has been one of the consistent performers for Mumbai in the Ranji Trophy but failed to make it to the Indian team.
Speaking to SportsYaari, about the words of legendary Sunil Gavaskar on his fitness, who was very vocal about Sarfaraz’s inclusion in the Border Gavaskar Trophy as one of the biggest talking regarding Sarfaraz Khan’s non-selection has been his body weight.
“I just heard that a while ago. I was busy playing in the Ranji Trophy so I saw it in the morning all that he had to say. See fitness is important, and I try my best. When our last Ranji Trophy match got over, I got back home at 2 AM in the night and at 5 AM was back on the ground. DC recently conducted a fitness camp in Delhi for 14 days. Whatever we have in our hand, we do it,” Sarfaraz told SportsYaari.
The prolific run-scorer scored 556 runs in 6 games this season with the help of three centuries and an average of more than 90. Since the 2019-20 season, the Mumbai star has scored a staggering 2970 runs from 26 matches (12 centuries, seven half-centuries) at an average of 106.07.
Suryakumar Yadav Is A Great Friend Of Me – Sarfaraz Khan
Sarfaraz Khan revealed that he wants to maintain the form as long as possible and is also hopeful of playing for India in the future citing the example the Suryakumar Yadav who earned a late call-up to the Indian team and has been a regular member of the Indian team since his debut in 2021.
“I am concentrating on the form that I am currently in, making sure I continue it for as long as possible. I’m doing this because when you lose your form, it doesn’t come back that easily. Often it happens that a player earns a late call-up. Take Suryakumar Yadav for example. He is a great friend; we keep talking to each other about skills and we both play strong sweep shots. So like he too got a late start, he is in good form. So I too don’t mind waiting a bit longer but the key is to sustain this form,” said Sarfaraz.
Sarfaraz Khan will be part of Delhi Capitals and likely to play the role of wicket-keeper batter in the absence of their regular skipper Rishabh Pant who will miss out on the season due to a tragic car accident. Delhi Capitals has started their preseason camp in Delhi under their head coach Ricky Ponting and Director of cricket Sourav Ganguly.
