Former India batsman Murali Vijay has slammed Sanjay Manjrekar after his recent on air remarks about him. Sanjay Manjrekar is a part of the commentary panel for the ongoing four-match Test series between India and Australia.

Both the teams are currently fighting it out in the first Test at the VCA Stadium in Nagpur. The first day belonged to Team India as they thoroughly dominated the visitors to take command.

Despite losing the toss, India hardly found them on the backfoot. Led by Ravindra Jadeja’s 5-wicket haul, the hosts bowled out Australia for a meagre total of 177. For the visitors, Marnus Labuschagne’s 49 runs was the best effort with the bat.

India then put up a good display with the bat too to end the day on 77 for 1. Skipper Rohit Sharma led from the very front, scoring an unbeaten 56 off just 69 balls. KL Rahul, on the other hand, departed after scoring 20 off 73 balls.

Murali Vijay slams Sanjay Manjrekar:

The second day of the Test (February 10) started on an unexpected note as Murali Vijay decided to take shots at Sanjay Manjrekar for the comments he made in the commentary box.

It all began when the commentators were discussing the conversion rate of the Indian openers in Tests at home. And as soon as the broadcasters displayed a list of the openers, Sanjay Manjrekar made a comment that did not go down well with Murali Vijay.

Murali Vijay has the best conversion rate among Indian openers in home Tests. And when Sanjay Manjrekar saw the list, he could not help but ended up making yet another controversial statement. Known for making bold and controversy-filled statements, the former cricketer-turned-commentator said that he was surprised to see Murali Vijay’s name in the list.

And it did not take the Tamil Nadu ace long to react to Manjrekar’s comments. Soon after the commentator made the comments, Vijay took to Twitter to post a couple of tweets to slam the ex-India batsman.

Tagging Manjrekar, Vijay made it clear that he was shocked with the comment before going on to claim that few former Mumbai players do not appreciate the players from the southern part of the country.

“Some Mumbai ex players can never be appreciative of the south !,” wrote Vijay.

Meanwhile, Murali Vijay recently announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket. He represented India in all the three formats of the game. The stylish batsman played 61 Tests, 17 ODIs and nine T20Is.

He scored 12 Test centuries and 15 half-centuries from 61 Tests while amassing a total of 3982 runs at an average of 38.28.
